We’re Off!! Well Actually We’re One Flight From Africa!!

While it was still very dark we loaded our 11 pieces of luggage into the car and headed to our little airport yesterday, or Monday or whatever day it was…

I started this post in the Denver airport, but the WiFi would not cooperate – ARGGHH!!

I am now sitting in the Amsterdam airport between flights.
Yesterday morning in our little town Dw kept starting to cry. He had dreamed of the day he would return to Africa to gather Elijah and Elizabeth in his arms and bring them home to their waiting-with-bells-on-her-toes Mama. But God has had other plans and so it’s me who is heading to Africa.
Please pray for him. He is thrilled I am going, but can hardly stand that he isn’t and that he must wait 18 days for our return.

Our flight last night between Detroit and Amsterdam was very turbulent at times…call me a party pooper but after that last flight from you-know-where I am just not up for bouncing around the sky. Emma and I held hands and prayed for a long while during the flight. We both thought we were going to be sick. If you missed what happened on that flight I was on, you can read about it here.

Your continued prayers are appreciated as we fly and yes, I prayed that God would wake some of you up to pray while we were bouncing around the sky last night.

Actually I told Emma that the Lord had spoken to my heart Sunday morning about all of this flight stuff. I was in the kitchen in the just-getting-light hours and noticed EIGHT deer out my kitchen window – not even 30 feet from me. I was watched them I noticed their eyes darting around looking and watching. I thought, “Hmmm, they are so worried, they are unable to just enjoy the day. They have no clue that they are totally safe on our property.” I felt like the Lord said, “That’s like worry Linny. You can be so worried and unable to enjoy life and not even notice that I am totally watching and protecting you.” So I told Emma that in the night and it’s obvious after that flight in August and now the one last night that I have yet to learn what I am supposed to be learning – argh!! I am working on it though!! =)

On a last note, I want to thank all of you who have posted comments, sent text messages, sent emails (yes, a boatload of lurkers came out of the shadows!!) to tell us that you were praying for all the aspects of our trip!! You have no idea how much that all means. When I get to Uganda I will sleep for a few hours then be up to run down to the baby orphanage and meet my baby girl and baby boy – YIPPEE JESUS!! Then we will walk about an hour to the attorney’s office downtown where he will give me some ideas of what I need to say to the judge. **gulp** (Did I not put my hubby through law school when we were first married to do these kind of things??) I guess the Lord must think I am up to the task though, but your prayers are much needed!

Yes I have eluded to my painful past and part of that past kept me a prisoner to fear. This is just another HUGE step for me!! Venturing to a faraway continent, an unknown country, an unspoken language – Yippee Jesus!!
I asked the Lord if I am having any troubles there if He would be so kind as to wake my bloggy friends up from their slumber and prompt them to pray – so here’s the deal – if you are awakened – YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!!! =)
I will post as soon as possible – I will want to show the world my sweet treasures from the Lord….How faithful He is – making the barren woman to be the joyful mother of children!! Yippee, Yippee, Yippeee Jesus!!!

  1. Linn this is so super awesome. I will be thrilled to be a faithful prayer for you – and I’m in Australia, so I’ll be awake when your US buddies are asleep. I’ll be praying and sending love, and won’t be able to stop thinking of you all for the next 15 days. Godspeed! Love Fi

  2. I stayed awake ALL NIGHT FOR YOU!!! 🙂 Haha! We talked to DW for awhile, he was sad and worried about your flight, maybe we distracted him a bit! Him and the kids were eating the usual evening snack at your house! 🙂 Miss you already. Can’t wait to see pictures! Whoa, G grew a foot since we saw him last! That picture standing by you! I can’t believe it. You know we love you, if you want to stop by on your way home, please feel free!! Love you!

  6. Dear Linn,

I DID pray for you in the night!!! You have been in my prayers, specifically for your safe travel, I wake up several times during the night and that is when I can pray the *best* because the house is quiet and my mind is quiet, other than for prayers. So, you were prayed for :-), and I’m sure there were others praying throughout the night as well. Can’t wait to see your babies!!!!!! And so sorry for poor DW, I’m sad for him, it’s a bittersweet feeling for him, I’m sure, knowing that you are there and have that joy of meeting those little ones and bringing them home to their waiting family….
    Love and Hugs,
    Sherrie

  7. Dear, sweet Linn,
I am praying for you and for DW and ALL of your babies at this exciting time…and if I wake during the night, I will PRAY HARD for you, specifically. You taught me how to be specific in prayer and I have seen the blessings that it has brought into my family’s life. Forever grateful and SO VERY EXCITED for you! Love, Amy

  9. Oh, how i wish i was the one in Africa. I would even take the bumpy flights and you know I am not the greatest flyer. God knows what he is doing with me staying home and you going. You are already in love with two children you’ve never met, just wait till you get to Sanyu babies home. You will fall in love with another 50 children. Hey, why not rent a whole plane and bring them all home, I’m sure through your blog you could find a bunch of willing mom’s and dad’s! I’m proud of you honey, be strong and courageous, i love you, dw

You are almost there….I am proud of you: facing fears are some of the craziest times of our lives, and usually the most exciting and most rewarding…so keep going dear friend! You guys enjoy your time there. You know we are supporting you all the way from little Durango, Colorado! P.S. Aren’t the prices in the Amsterdam airport ridiculous?? Gotta love the Euro!
