Anyone Want to Come to Colorado for a Free Manicure?

Let’s see, we offered a free facial here, which if you missed, it is worth checking out and maybe taking advantage of the offer.

Today we have a special running on manicures. The shortest member of the family is an expert at nail polish. Really, trust me. He’s good.
Did you notice that he even put it on his lips? Dude! Your sisters use lip gloss on their lips, not nail polish on their lips.

Disclaimer: Nail polish color pictured is no longer available – it was pretty to the last drop. It was Emmy’s favorite color too….obviously Elijah’s favorite color too.
Also, dry cleaning not included in offer.
PS Does anyone know how to take nail polish out of creamish colored carpet? Yeah, me neither. And Whitey, if you read this…sorry, I just didn’t have the heart to show you sooner. Nothing like telling you in front of 1500 people. LOL So glad you are heading to Greeley to take Isaiah for his 3rd casting as I post this….maybe you’ll miss it altogether and someone in the meantime will have the ‘cure all’ for the carpet. Please Lord, I pray!

  1. Ummmm, definitely sign me up for a manicure…does he do pedicures as well?

And Linn, is cloning really so bad? Because I'm thinking there needs to be about 3 more of you! 🙂

I have no idea how to get the polish out of your carpet (I hope your landlord isn't reading your blog!). But I can get Emma more polish…let me know & I'll send her some (and a lock box!).

  2. Oh My! I would try nail polish remover on the carpet, and all the little body parts that have that pretty nail polish all over them. Not sure about the clothing :-).

    Fun Stuff!!!!!!!!!!
    Hugs,
    Sherrie

  3. OH LINN!! Yes, Melaleuca.com has a product called Sol umel that saved MY beige carpet from a similar color. I can order and send you some. It is 10.00 a bottle but it is concentrated stuff. Email me if you are interested. it will take a few days though. For fast fix, get tea tree oil at a health food store. It is about ten dollars for a small bottle but it is what makes upthe sol u mel. it may work.

  4. Oh dear … does your landlord read your blog? Hope not.

These are the times that I’m not really missing the toddler/preschool stage.

Glad you didn’t have to take the 900 mile drive this week.

I’m … off to Africa … please keep me in your prayers.

    Laurel 🙂

  5. Oh my! I know I am a mom cause one of my first thoughts, was that he was wearing such a cute little outfit that he ruined! Save the pictures they will be fun to show people when he is in high school!

  6. I’ve -heard- that barbasol shaving cream will take it right up .. I don’t know if it specifically has to be that brand, but supposedly you can just spray it onto the polish, rub it into the carpet with your fingers, and then rub it dry with a paper towel .. Good luck! And let me know if it works – I have a daughter on the way! 😉 haha

    God Bless!

  7. I have heard that window cleaner works well. Also, maybe vinegar would work.

Glad you are such an understanding mommy. I don’t think that I would be calm enough to take pictures if I saw that on my carpet.

  8. My girls got nail polish on my mother-in-laws white carpet. We used non-acetone polish remover and it took awhile, but you can’t tell now where the spot even was! And we never even told her it happened! Good luck!

  9. You may have to use nail polish remover. Nail polish is paint, if it is still wet maybe soap and water. Praying that you can get it out.

  10. I am new to your blog. Loved learning about your life and the blessings and trials that have been placed in your path.
Your family is amazing – a true inspiration. You are in my prayers. May God fill you with many more blessings as you serve Him in such a humble way. Special prayers for Autumn today.

  11. Yes, Linny- we have a cure for the carpet! At two years old, Taleah also decided she needed to do manicures and painted our beige carpet a lovely shade of fuchsia. God bless Ellen- she knows almost everything. She knew just what to do, and my carpet shows NO sign of nail polish. Can I have Ellen contact you?
    Lisa

  12. yEARS AGO THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME JUST TAKE SMALL AMOUNTS OF NAIL POLISH REMOVER AND TEST IN A CORNER. yOU SHOULD BE FINE jUST DON’T POUR IT STRAIGHT ON THE CARPET JUST PUT IT ON A RAG AND BLOT DON’T RUB AND THEN JUST USE CARPET CLEANER TO REMOVE ANY EXCESS POLISH REMOVER. gOOD LUCK LYNNE

  13. Oh Linny,

Call me crazy but this mom of one teen and 2 preteens sees these pictures and wants the adventure of toddlers in the house again!! TOO PRECIOUS. My girls called nail polish – “paint nailish”. It was so cute that probably way too late did we explain that is was nail polish! At 14 and 12 they still slip and call it “paint nailish” :).

Praying for you ALL! Thanks for sharing your stories – it is such an encouragement to me! I am anxious to see how God turns all this sorrow to JOY!

I would love to give you a GREAT big, tight hug and a GIANT smile and personaly say KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT LINNY!!!!

Cheering you on, Lurker Lisa, Whidbey Island, WA

  14. acetone-it’s the active ingredient in nail polish remover, but you can buy it in a more concentrated form at a hardware store. Good luck!

  15. Nail polish remover should take it out of carpet. Try a small area first. But that stuff is STRONG. Last summer my father was stripping 150 years of paint layers form a newel post in his house and couldn’t get some of the paint off certain parts. I brought him a bottle of polish remover and he laughed at me. Then an hour later he asked me to go buy several bottles. Not only did it work like a dream on the antique post after he tried nearly a dozen other products from H Depot, but it also took up the paint from the carpet when he painted earlier that summer. Oh and its only about a buck!

  16. Spot Shot. It gets anything out of carpet (and clothes, I might add). I spilled nailpolish way back in our fist apartment. It was about the same color your little one loves too! I was devasted b/c I knew it meant we wouldn’t be getting back our full deposit when we moved out of the apartment. And back then, every single penny was huge to us. Anyway, Spot Shot did the trick. And that was after trying just about everything else. Good luck! julia.

  17. You will have to test only a small portion of the carpet first, but actual nail polish remover has worked for getting nail polish out of our carpets before. It will also work on the clothes:) When we had this happen we used the nail polish remover first, then Spot Shot and the remainder of the polish we cut off of the carpet. Good luck!

  18. Oh my goodness! Sorry for laughing.
I had a 3 year old dump Mary Kay’s Downtown Brown polish on my new carpet in my first ever house which just so happened to be brand new. Yeah. Hubby…not so happy. Banned the child from nail polish until she’s 30. (It’s okay b/c she’s 11 now and he’s forgotten that little episode!)
So do you know what worked for me?
Spot Shot carpet cleaner. No kidding. Lots. of. Spot Shot!
How about nail polish remover in small amounts? I mean, can it get worse? (well, okay, yeah if it gets all smeared in)
Also, I have a serious question for you. It seems to me that you refer to your hubby as Dw…although for a time I thought when I read that that it was your hubby writing and referring to YOU as Dw- (Dear Wife or Darling wife, whatever it is) but then the more I read, the more I was convinced it was YOUR writing and you were referring to hubby as Dw…so can you please explain since I am one of those really simple people who needs a lot of explanations 🙂
Ohhh, I do have another question…sorry.
Do you just put the items in your memorial box or do you have a journal to go along with it where you write a more detailed explanation of what the item represents? I mean, do you remember every single item- what it represents when you look at it or do you ever say to yourself, “Hmmm a feather…wonder what that was about?”
Just wondering since this is a new to me concept!
    Thanks for teaching me!

  19. I read your blog almost every day but have never posted a comment. You are such an inspiration! I have gotten very slack with my own blog after we returned home from China, and there are only a couple of blogs I sneak a few minutes in to read. The nail polish brings back memories- when my Sophie was about 2 years old, she found the red polish and painted her room, herself, her toys, her carpet! I’m sorry I don’t have the grand solution to get it up though! I think we ended up pulling up the carpet- It was a lot of it! I want to adopt again, but my busband is content, so I was happy to see your answer to a similar question a few days ago. Love, Kim

  20. One of our kids did this too–but I was able to get it out before the nailpolish dried with nail polish remover. I don’t know what to use…sorry!

I must say–wow, you sure are a calm mom to take photos and not sound too frustrated. I was pretty upset when our daughter did it! I can learn from you I think!

  21. That happened to us and honestly, I got it out. I used an Oxypod and a little bit of finger nail polish remover. It came right up. Maybe it was the prayers though? Either way, my daughter’s life was spared when her daddy came home and that was what mattered! LOL. GOOD LUCK. Man that is one cute kid.

  22. Ok do not think I am insane but shaving cream scrubbed in for about 10 or 15 minutes usually works wonders all nail polish remover does is spread it around….also let me know the nail polish color and brand we have a boutique here in Biloxi Ms where I can usually find discontinued colors and brands!!! I am kyndle by the way!

  23. I wish I had some great polish removing advice, but same thing happened to me and I didn’t have much success. It finally faded away after multiple scrubbings, but the carpet is a lighter color in those spots now.

I love your sense of humor, sometimes you can only just laugh, because crying’s not gonna fix it!

  24. I’m not sure if this helps you to know but I am SO glad that I am NOT alone and that you are such a good sport about it. I have nearly pulled out my hair a few rimes with my sweet little toddlers as I juggle their lives with that of my teenagers. I KNOW that it was easier when my older kids were younger because they were all at the same level. I just need to continue begging God for patience (hence why he keeps allowing manicures and creative sauce making to happen in my house) and enjoy the time before the day that they know it is wrong to do such things. That is not so far away and it will be sadly missed. Thank you for sharing. We are keeping you ALL in our prayers!

By the way, I have never had the nerve to say this to you before now and I pray that my humor is well received and that you are at a place to laugh with me about this. BUT … I have never been able to tell you how glad I am that you let Dw out of the attic before the fire!!!! (If you remember he had “gotten out” to sneak in a posting on you blog … sorry … my friends and I were able to laugh about that a long time ago and I have just been waiting for the day to share it with you … today felt right 🙂

    Blessings, Lisa C.

  25. Gasoline…I know it sounds crazy, but thats what I use to get paint out of all my clothes! I’d imagine that it’d work on carpet. Don’t hold me responsible if it doesn’t! =0)

  26. Hi Linny, When I’ve experienced things like this I tend to go to the website for the brand of polish, pens, lipstick etc and see if they have recommendations for getting it out. Blessings to you. I think Isaiah will be an artist!

  27. I’m beginning to think you are training these kiddos early to run a spa so they can support you in your retirement years. Manicures, facials, the body treatment you pictured a week or so ago. Looks like they are coming right along. lol As far as the carpet, you might try using nail polish remover. I would test on an inconspicuous spot. And I am having a vision of your future: everything in locked cabinets, and a lock on the fridge.

Have fun with your active toddlers. They keep you hopping, but young though. Don’t they?

  28. Although I would love a mani/pedi (gulp), I’m gonna have to pass this time. But I would love to hear of any suggestions for removal that work. Madi blessed our couch with polish almost 2 years ago, and I can’t find anything to take it out.

  29. I don’t know if this will work, but it is worth a try. I have gotten some pretty bad stains out with “Goof Off”. It comes in a little can and is kinda oily. It also comes in pre-treated cloths, but I don’t think that would be enough for the carpet. You can find it at Lowe’s, Home Depot, or a hardware store, normally in the paint department. Hope this helps.

BTW, I have been following your blog for a few weeks now, but I have never posted. I have a daughter from China who we brought home last July. Her name is Mandy Rose and she is the greatest kid! Well, anyways, good luck with the carpet!

  30. Um, our little stinkers could go into business together!

And, alas…I have no magical cures for nail polish and cream carpet. I’ll send you a text pic just to prove it.

  31. As a teenager, I spilt nail polish on a friend’s carpet… their mother had just had them cleaned too! What worked for me: Scrubbing Bubbles bathroom cleaner. I know, sounds crazy. But it worked. Maybe do a small tester spot in a closet or something where it wont be seen, in case it happens to work as a bleaching agent on the carpet. But it worked for me. And I have in fact used it to clean carpet stains since. That or oxy clean.

Bet you are LOVING those fun times only toddlers can give you! 🙂 Your boatload are sure to make you many more fun stories like this. Praise the Lord for manicures by tot’s!

  32. Nail polish remover. I spilled some red polish on my beige carpet and it worked like a charm (I got my security deposit back!).

It might make the carpet a little lighter, but a light patch is better than a red patch!

  33. I am a relatively new reader and just have to comment that if you find out how to remove nailpolish, please post the results as I have blue polish all over my new Berber carpet! I have 9 kiddos, 4 adopted, 3 from Liberia. My wonderful husband and I are raising our brood an hour from Richmond where I wish you still lived and I’d have you guys over for dinner! Oh, my littlest guy is also Elijah!

  34. I can totally identify with the carpet mishap. When my Kati was about that age, she did something similar; it was all over the floor and my hope chest. What will get it out? Nothing completely–that I found, but time works wonders. 🙂

  35. I love it!! Life is too short to get upset! Do you have any extra carpet samples in the basement?? You may need to to do some piecing together!

Linny- we are looking at another referral- please say prayers! I am going to catch up to you in no time!! JK

    Blessings to all of you!

  36. I’d probably try nail polish remover on the carpet. A white spot would look better than a brightly colored spot. lol My daughter got glow in the dark nail polish all over a chair. During the day, it couldn’t be seen but at night, it glowed for years. 🙂

  37. oh dear that is some funny stuff. A little comic relief never hurts. And I am totally down for a manicure from that sweet little one. Good news is, seems theres a good chance I’ll get a “2fer”.. as I have a feeling my toes will get in on a little pedicure action as well.

Hugs to you friend. I miss our chats! We will need to catch up at some point soon, otherwise, you just might look outside your window one day, and there I will be in Big mama with my boatload. oh, and my favorite nailpolish.

Lots of love and many hugs to you!
    🙂
    Amie

  38. Love it! And so sorry about the carpet. I have no idea. 🙁 But you will have this sweet memory forever, and carpets don’t matter in the grand scheme of things! On our wedding night, my hubby and I did not go to a hotel. We went to our new home, which was where he had already been living. Anyway, we had a special dinner complete with sparkling grape juice in a bottle with a cork! Well, we tried to get that cork off, and we sure did all right, with a nice exposion of grape juice, ALL OVER EVERYTHING, the carpet, the walls, a beautiful trail of it following us into the kitchen where we desperately ran. We spent the next hours cleaning. But it is one of our favorite memories. 🙂

  39. Holy cow (yeah, I know…that’s idolatry…Hehe…Bible college humor!) Anyhow…holy cannoli! He is one BUSY boy! Oh, my goodness! How long did it take him to accomplish all this mayhem? You MIGHT need to call in a professional carpet cleaner person. It is pretty amazing what they can get out! I have NO carpets in my house, so am clueless! 🙂

BTW, you never did tell us what Elijah needed stitches for? Like I said…one BUSY little boy!

I’m tired just THINKING about trying to keep up with him! 🙂

    Love…Nancy in CT

  40. When our daughter did something similar, we used an entire LARGE bottle of non-acetone nail polish remover. You could still see a lighter pink spot, but over the years even that has faded.

I’m ROFLOL! I so feel your pain.

  41. If you get a heads up on a cure for nail polish stains pass it my way. I wish I could post pictures of my nail polished tub, bathroom floor, bedroom floor, and mattress…. I’ve grown to call these stains, the ‘I love you Mommy’ stains… ones that remind me what is important… the i loves you’s instead of the perfect house… then again we don’t live in a super nice rental 😉

  42. I’ve never commented before, but want you to know I LOVE your blog! This, seriously, just happened to us with our 2 year old little girl and her 4 year old friend! My husband got online and discovered a product called “Motsenbocker’s Lift Off 3” I think he got it at Lowe’s or Home Depot. It says it’s a graffiti remover, but it worked on our carpet and didn’t take the color out of the carpet…. I was worried because we are also in a rental! Hope it works for you! Wish I could just send the rest of our bottle, but maybe it will come in handy again!

  43. Hello my friend,
It is so wonderful to be home, and even more wonderful to be able to catch up on all the happenings in your life. You have REALLY been on my heart. I have been praying for your Autumn and wondering how things are going as she undergoes testing. KNOW that you (and your family) are in our prayers. I know that the enemy is messing with the wrong family–God WILL get the glory in all you have been through (and are going through). How glorious it is going to be.

You are covered in prayer, friend. Stay strong and stand firm.

Oh how I loved seeing the pics of your African beauties–there is never a dull moment in your house 🙂 Such joy.

  44. Linn, I’m sorry that I do not have any stain tips but I do have this:

    ~beautiful beige carpet……$100.’s (of dollars)

    ~adorable little outfit….$30+.00

    ~O.P.I. “Serengeti” red/pink polish….$6.95

~The Blessed “opportunity” to spill the polish….PRICELESS

  45. sometimes if its just on the very top of the carpet you can trim it off… i had to do that a few times. i would do test patches with anything you use- find a corner where no one sees and test the cleaner to make sure it doesn’t bleach out or ruin the carpet. also becareful and make sure to BLOT do not rub as rubbing will make it spread and make it go in deeper into the fibers.

please make sure and post an update on the carpet- and that precious child- give him a hug

  46. Try murphys oil… the leather polish… It takes stains out of clothes so it should work for carpet. You apply some to the spots rub it in with a toothbrush and then use water to get it up! On clothes add some to the stain before putting in the washing machine and let the washer do the rest!
