Abigail Meets Jubilee……

I thought you guys would love to see our newest cherub meeting her oldest sister the other day. Elizabeth wasted no time in telling Abi that she’s four now….If only Tyler, Sarah and Ryan were here….they’d ALL be home…When everyone turned to go, Isaiah was waiting for me….and I was taking pictures…He watched the kids, Daddy and Uncle Mark all go farther down the hall….And yet he waited…..such a precious baby boy….Outside Abi was carrying Elizabeth and they started whispering…they have a secret….Oh yeah, it’s a fun, fun secret…

And the reason they had such a fun secret was because Miss Abigail came home to baby-sit the kiddos and Dw and I were heading out of town. In the 27 years since Abi’s birth Dw and I have never managed to get away for any length of time. We’ve been to denominational meetings for 2 nights, or a bed and breakfast here and there, but not ever for any length of time – in 27 years!! So Abigail volunteered to fly home and take care of all her little siblings so we could “run away”. Monday her flights were delayed and so she didn’t get in till 7 pm {she was supposed to be here at noon}.

We were packed and ready to go as soon as we saw her meet Jubilee. We headed toward Phoenix where we were going to thaw out and warm up for four glorious nights! As we drove in the dark, we encountered the most horrific wind and sand/dirt storm on the way across the reservation. It was creepy and scary. At one point Dw pulled over to let 2 semi’s pass and we thunked over the banks of sand and dirt that had piled along the roadside.
It was nuts!

We have never seen anything like that sand/dirt storm with such high winds. There were several times where Dw could see absolutely nothing at all and so he had to go 10mph. We ended up at a Quality Inn in Gallup and learned that the roads into Arizona were actually closed due to the wind/sand/dirt storm. Crazy, crazy, crazy!! We laughed as we headed into that Quality Inn during a sand storm. Hardly the romantic getaway we envisioned!!

Tuesday we made it to Phoenix and have been having a blast. We have done all kinds of things including just soaking up the sun. You guys would have laughed, too, if you had seen me sitting on the floor of the hotel bathroom in the wee hours of the morning typing the “How to Hear God Speak Part 1″…..Dw was asleep in the bed and it was just a little room, so as not to wake him I was sitting on the floor in the bathroom.

Anyway, I have been working on Part 2 {and actually it may turn into a Part 3} and will publish it soon. I am so excited that God is using Part 1 to minister and speak to so many of you….Part 2 is coming….but for now, Whitey and I are going walking in this gorgeous Arizona warmth, packing it up and heading for home 9 hours away…xo

  1. So glad you got a chance to get away – whats not romantic about a sandstorm? 🙂 Good to see the sisters and kids all together. Isaiah must have bonded with you pretty well.

  2. Well, despite the little run-in with the sandstorm, it sounds like you are still having a nice time. How wonderful that your daughter was able to come home and care for her siblings while you are away… total peace of mind and heart knowing they are in such great care!

Praying for safe travels back home!! Have a blessed weekend! <><

  6. Wonderful, Linny! We will celebrate our 20th this year and hope to get away…for a day or two at least. 🙂 Sounds so romantic. 🙂

  7. Enjoy your much needed break! Soak up the warmth of the sun!

Looking forward to part 2 and maybe even 3!

I am reading a book on fasting so be sure to include how fasting can open a whole new door to our Lord, a new and exciting relationship with him! A closeness like we have never had before!
(I'm still struggling with the self discipline and the idea of discomfort while fasting- Yes I realize what our Lord did for us- I'm weak and have many areas to improve upon- ugh-but I'm trying)

Love seeing Abi with Jubilee and the other kids!!

  8. Oh the memories your post brought flooding back. Gallop and the reservation. Many years ago, in fact about 33 if I count back, I drove through there with 4 children and my mom. I was driving from Florida to Salt Lake to meet my husband. It was so dark due to it being night and I couldn't see where I was. So scared and we stayed the night in a motel in Gallop. My mother actually lost a nice ring there. It slipped off her finger as we walked around.
I may not have the sequence of events quite right after al this time. But I rmember all of us crowding into the room and trying to keep the kids quiet and not jumping on the beds.

  9. Welcome to the Valley of the Sun! I hope you are enjoying our beautiful weather. It's the best time of year to visit Phx. May you enjoy every minute of your getaway!

  10. my hubby and i have been "stuck" in gallup, az due to inclimate weather! how funny! it was 7 years ago when we were driving down to mesa. glad you were able to get away together… wherever your away may be 🙂

  11. oh Linny, thank you so much for typing up part 1 on the floor in the bathroom!!! bless your heart!!!

I hope you and Dwight enjoyed relaxing on this trip 🙂

It might go on to part 3? oh goody! 😀 It'll be great it if it goes on to part 20 (or even more!) LOL.

    Thanks again! 🙂
