Memorial Box Monday – The Old Car

I have a really fun story to tell this time around, because it is a clear reminder that Almighty God loves, loves, loves to answer our prayers. He loves to give us the desires of our hearts. He cares about even the teeny, tiny little things….listen to this:

In 1978 when Dw and I were going to get married, our budget was very limited. He was in law school and I was working for $150.00/week. We would not be taking loans out to have a wedding and reception. We would be paying for most of it ourselves. We prayed alot and searched for deals.

But did you ever have something you just really want? I did. I had seen a picture from my cousin’s wedding. They had posed beside an old antiquey/vintage car. I just loved that picture. And in my heart I longed to have an old car to take pictures next to.

I somehow got ahold of a man with a vintage car and asked him about using it to take pictures near after the wedding. He said the date would work and it would be $100.00 to use the car for pictures. Well that was out of the question. My dress cost just about $100 and I would be wearing it for a few hours. But a car for a few minutes? Not a good use of our money in our opinion. Thank you, but no thank you.

Knowing that renting an old car would be out of the question, I swung into prayer. I asked the Lord if there wasn’t some way He would and could provide an old vintage car for our picture taking. He is so faithful and since He loves to bless us and show us His love…..

August 12, 1978 rolled around. It was a beautiful day in Tonawanda, New York. We were married at 5pm and about 6:30pm we ended up at Ellicott Creek Park for pictures. Ellicott Creek Park is a small town park with a long road that gently winds through the park.

And there we stood having our pictures taken against a backdrop of trees. And the God who loves us so much? Well see, He’s got our back and He is always working on our behalf…..and so you can only imagine how I gasped outloud and literally jumped up and down shrieking with delight as an old antiquey/vintage car came winding toward us down that park road? Dw ran to the road and flagged the owner down….”Ummm, would you be willing to let our wedding party take a few snapshots around your car?”

Seriously sweet friends, I tear up as I type….my Miracle-working, Mountain-moving, Awe-inspiring, Gasp-giving God loves me that much….and in a few hours I will try to have a picture of it up here….it was so miraculous!! Such a Yippee Jesus moment!!

  1. Coming to your blog has really opened my eyes to how God is in every single detail of our lives..big and small….I have been able to see it over and over again in the past couple of months and prayed for everything along the way! Bless you for all you do here and Praise God for providing you with the wedding pictures you desired!

  2. That's awesome, got me smiling 🙂 He provided the car just at the moment when pictures are taken! This reminds me of George Mueller's prayers for provision of food for the orphans… awesome story, thank you for sharing, it helps us to remember to trust in Him especially when struggling with finances.

  3. Love the story!

Yesterday as I was pondering the ways the Lord has surprised us, I pictured Him looking down–watching us, with the hugest grin on His face, and that "oooooh this is gonna be sooooo good" look in His eye! It makes me giggle to think about it!

Can you just see Him as that old car came driving down that park road–watching and waiting to see your delight Linny? Oh He is good!

    Love you, friend.

    Tina
