The Summer of Crazy Love

Early this morning I was sitting on the porch having my morning Bible study. Part of the scripture reading was from Ephesians 5. When I read the very first verse, the Lord said, “This is for your post today!” Whoooa, how cool was that?

“Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” Ephesians 5:1

Live a life of love. Live a life of love. That’s about as simple as it gets….live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us.

So I’ve been thinkin’ and wanted to share with you guys some stuff. Dw decided that this summer our church would do what we called, “The Summer of Crazy Love”. Our prayer is that Crazy Love would become a lifestyle, but for now, let’s focus on the summer.

Anyway, so Dw has started this past Sunday a sermon series called Crazy Love. I have to tell you friends, I have heard my husband preach now for 20+ years, since he is my pastor too. Each week the Holy Spirit uses his sermons to speak to areas of my life. God spoke thru his sermon this past Sunday and so super-charged me, that if you are interested in listening here is the link to it. Crazy Love – The Prodigal. Just click on “media” on the right of the page and it will take you to two options of how to listen.

Our church staff has been brain storming and we are planning ways to Crazy Love our community. We have tee-shirts ordered and we are doing things as a church and we are encouraging people to do things as families and individuals. Spreading Crazy Love could even become contagious!!

But we really wanted people to know why we are doing what we are doing and so we have a little card made up. That way, should an individual choose to show some Crazy Love, they can hand them a little card and on it is the web address to direct them to this link: River Church – Crazy Love

So with our church doing the Summer of Crazy Love I wondered what my bloggy friends would think of having our own little Crazy Love Summer Challenge Can you imagine how much fun we would have?

Then I thought, “I wonder if any of my blog friends would want some of the cards to hand out? It would make it easy then for the person receiving some Crazy Love to hear a snippet about God’s love for them?!” Just imagine, people around the world, wondering what motivated you to this Crazy Love action and hearing a teeny blurb about God’s Crazy Love. Can you imagine?

Now if your church is already doing something similiar, awesome!! I just love having a card to hand out. I want people I randomly shower with Crazy Love to know that God loves them and that His love compels me to generously love others.

So what I was thinking was if any of you would want some cards like we’re handing out….I will mail you some. All you have to do is send me an envelope with a stamped, self-addressed envelope inside. I will stick about 5 or 6 cards inside and pop them back in the mail to you.

My address is: Linny Saunders
c/o River Church
860 Plymouth Drive

Then the plan is that NEXT week, I will start a weekly link up for the Summer of Crazy Love and then all of my bloggy friends will have the opportunity to post a link about some Crazy Love you have given or been shown through the Summer of Crazy Love.

And some friends ideas would stir the imagination of others and we could have some really, stinkin’ fun ways to show Crazy Love……so that’s what has me so excited. What do you think? Are you up for a Summer of Crazy Love? Please let me know your thoughts. I can’t wait to hear what you’ll think….infact if you would, please, please, please post in the comments your thoughts on the Summer of Crazy Love and maybe even some ideas for showing Crazy Love. I’ll sprinkle in the comments too, some ideas. Come on, whatcha thinking? Any of you want a few cards for when you show some Crazy Love?? Please share your thoughts or if you are up to the challenge?

  1. My first thought reading through this? Woohoo! My second? I need 2 envelopes, a pen, and a stamp. 🙂 Third? "Alright, God, show me some good ways to use those cards once they get here."

    🙂

  2. I would love to be part of a Summer of Crazy Love. Have you read the book "Crazy Love" by Francis Chan and if you have then would you recommend it? I read "Forgotten God" by Francis Chan and thought it was great and have been thinking about buying his "Crazy Love" book.

  3. Hi Linny, I've been reading for a long time and just realized I'm not a friend yet so will get that done post haste 🙂

A cool Crazy Love we do in the Sioux Falls SD area was started by our local Christian radio station and they call it the Drive Thru Difference. What you do is pay for the order behind you at the drive through…Mcdonalds, Starbucks, wherever you are at a drive thru. The radio station has a letter you can print out and give to the cashier to give to the person you just paid for. The radio station has had great response here. A TV station has picked it up and co-sponsors the monthly event. It is a great way to show others a little love…and CRAZY too!

here's the web address, hopefully it comes thru ok:

  4. Our church has been doing this for awhile, only calling it Revolutionary Love. They have a blog where people who have received or given can write about their experiences.
We have loved paying for people in line behind us in drivethroughs at fast food places and having the worker give them the card and tell them their order was paid for by a stranger! Makes me cry every time…sometimes the workers touch me most…they can't comprehend WHY we would want to do it!
    Glory to God!

  5. LOVE.

totally in. i am in charge of outreach projects for our small group. so we are kind of doing this monthly anyway, but i look forward to brainstorming even more and doing this with our 5 kids, too!!!

    I AM SO EXCITED! =)

thank you, linny. you are a blessing.

  6. i SO want some cards! i'll be mailing you that envelope!!
i can't think of anything better to get my witnessing/loving self in motion than this! what a great opportunity to help a few of us quiet people come out of our shell before we go half way around the world next year! haha 😀
i've really wanted to witness/love on some people lately, and this gives me the perfect opportunity! i've never known really how to say what i need to say, what not to say, and when to say it. so yeah, crazy loving will definitely give me a jump start! i can't wait! woohooOOO!!!
thank you so much for being willing to do this with us, your bloggy friends :))

  7. I was thinking about Crazy Love today and wondering what our next "assignment" would be on your blog. It's opened up a whole new world for our family. I'm in for sure on this Summer of Crazy Love. I love this Crazy Love stuff!!! Hugs and love

  8. I'm in!

Only 5 or 6? Don't you think we should at least get one for each week of the summer? 😉

Sounds like fun and I can't wait to get started. I'll try to listen to the sermon tomorrow.

  9. What a wonderful idea!! I am up for sharing some Crazy Love this summer! I love, lovin' on people! I am headed over to listen to the sermon in just a few minutes. I just need some ideas for some Crazy Love. Love the drive thru idea.

We do have a place here thats a coffee house that they have a never ending jar of "pay it forward" money. My hubby and his mens bible study meet there every saturday and just keep filling that cup up. Everyone is so generous. It even made the local newspaper. So I am excited, Let's GO!!!!

Go Jesus help us share some Crazy Love this summer to those who may not know you or who may just need to be loved on by you!! I am IN!! 🙂

  10. I.LOVE.IT! I am just finishing reading the book Crazy Love by Francis Chan and doing the bible study with my womens bible study. We have talked about Crazy Love and what it looks like. Now we are taking the next step…acting crazy. I am in Canada, do you think if I sent you some American $ for postage you could send me some cards? I have also sent your blog on to all of my girlfriends! It is amazing how Our God pulls so many different things together!! Thank You

  11. This is exactly what I've been needing this summer.
Speaking of Crazy Love, I'm going through this book with my sunday school class. While Im not finished yet, it is a book like no other I've read. Very challenging!

  12. Hi Linny – GREAT! Crazy love is underway on our st this season and I can not wait to share with you about it soon – we will be praying for all those people who are, as yet, unaware that God's love is about to mee them just where they are – wherever that is ! lol xxx

  13. Hi Linny,
I'm a lurker and have been following your blog for months. God has me here. We are planning for some ridiculous crazy love where I live. And its not just me, its other like minded people in our community. Fixing up houses, handing out food, clothing, school supplies….hehehe…even a "missionary" moving in the "bad" part of town is in the works. I pray that WE won't stop until we love like Jesus and look like Him to the lost in our community.
    LOVE THE SHIRTS!!!!
And I love the weird look that we get from others that haven't caught on to the craziness.
Thanks for the verse. It will be posted for everyone to see!

  14. I love this idea…. 🙂

And you must share – have you or DW read the book, "Crazy Love" – if not, I seriously encourage you to do that…. it goes along with what you are promoting and I think it would encourage you further.

Also, if people dont know where to start, a great website is http://www.wishuponahero.com and you can search by state… this is a great way to fulfill some desparate needs, even if its just cards or prayers (and no, I have nothing to do with this site)

    Thanks for all yall do.

  15. LOVE it!
A day late, but I hope not a dollar short :o)
I am in the throws of beginning the planning for another mission trip to Ethiopia, I think this would be a great way to start our team building. Sharing some Crazy Love here in Virginia Beach before we head out to Ethiopia. ;o)
    Thank you
I will have my envelope in the mail this weekend.
    Andrea

  16. Another great thought! 🙂
I'm thinking… pay random expired parking meters and leave a card? Wash my neighbor's car for no reason? Give out McDonald's cards (or something similar) to the homeless people by the Sears Tower? Hire someone who needs work to clean my house or work in my yard? The list goes on!!
    Love to you.

  17. Oh Linny, I LOVE this! Thank you so much for sharing this idea with us. I would love to share some crazy love this summer and hand out your cards. I will send you an envelope as soon as I can.

Also, Talley Images – I visited the Wish Upon a Hero site and love it! I was so happy to be able to grant a wish for someone! Thanks for passing along the info.

  18. Linny, I want some Crazy Love cards!!!! I can't wait to show some crazy love to others, and what a beautiful way to make it tangible. Thank you for stepping out in obedience as the Spirit leads you, sweet friend!
    Love~
    Connie
