“Cause Paper Doesn’t Wash Off”

Kids are hysterical, aren’t they?
Sometime yesterday a certain someone wrote on the wall in the little boys room….Quite certain they stood on the window seat to create this sudden artistic flair….
Who exactly found a marker and “went to town”?  Hmmm.  Let’s look for clues….
Upon closer examination we find a bunch of “E”s and “Z”s.} {backwards, but nonetheless “Z”s} Hmmmmm…..who would be currently practicing Z’s and E’s to write their name?  Jubilee?  Ummm, no.  Elijah?  Hmmmm.  Nope again.   Likely candidate?
And all of a sudden, in the hallway I heard a certain someone {who had discovered Emma showing me the proverbial “writing on the wall”} who had plopped down on the floor in the hall and was crying {real tears and all}.
Guilt by association?  Not in this case.  Guilt for being discovered.  Quite possibly.  Not sure.  But certainly admitting their guilt by the tears.  Poor thing.
I went over to her {after taking a few pics} and said, “Honey, what’s wrong?  I haven’t even said anything to you, but you are crying.”

I sat down next to her.  I was trying not to laugh.  Actually, feeling pretty relieved that this little treasure has such a conscience and was so broken-hearted about it all.

When she settled down I asked her, “So why did you write on the wall Elizabeth?”

“Cause paper doesn’t wash off.”

“So you wrote on the wall because it will wash off?”

“Uh-huh.”

Okay. Sure. That makes sense.

To a four-year-old, I guess.

  1. That child is not only beautiful I'm thinking she just might be brilliant as well. Her heart is amazing what a little angel shes going to be someone extra special someday! Though today I have a feeling shes washing walls. LOL

  2. Aww she looks so sad. One of my older ones wrote their name on the wall and then tried to convince me that it wasn't them. Uh uh, no way…someone must have snuck in and wrote it there because they would never do that.

  3. Reminds me of the time I got a SERIOUS spanking for carving in the wall…write under the wall phone in the kitchen.

AFTER my spanking Daddy asked, "What were you doing?"

And, I said, "I was going to write I love Mama and Daddy, but I've changed my mind now."

  4. I had a similar post about drawing on a brother… She labeled him "ELI" but the E was backwards. 🙂

They think they are sooooo smart… not as smart as mommy.

    Got to laugh!

  5. LOL!! Oh my goodness gracious. I've always wondered why little ones enjoyed drawing on the wall so much. Now I know…cause paper doesn't wash off. Makes sense to me. Ha! Bless her heart. Did you ask her what she was drawing/writing besides her name? It looks like there are crosses on the door. Love the backwards Z's. 😉

  6. And of course that is precisely why the make Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It is truly magic. I know from a truck load of experience. And you just gotta love this girl. She is just huggable cute.

  7. Oh wow. So glad it is not just ME dealing with literal writing on the wall. I too find it ironic that the little ones who are doing something they HAVE to know is not the norm… sign their own NAMES??? Right now on the outside of my van in permanent marker(my van is white) is HOM Moriah was working on those letters and getting them in the wrong order but yes still obvious to us all who wrote it because we had seen it on a thousand post it notes. I have repainted so many surfaces on my walls. I have everyones signature(all about age 5 too) somewhere in this house that I have NOT covered up yet. lol

  8. I love that you made it through without laughing–I"m finding it harder in my 'senior years' not to laugh when our five year olds do those things

  9. Sweet Girl! She DID feel bad about it! I worry about my kids and their lack of guilt when doing such things (well, the ONE who actually does stuff like this!!) Did I mention how smart she is? Writing on the boys wall? She may have thought that would buy her a little time! Hee Hee! Sheri

  10. My dear precious little Elizabeth,
You know that wall is exactly the example of what Jesus does with our sin. He washes them clean away when we ask for forgiveness.
You are such a smart girl.
Hugs to you and ALL your family,

  11. Too funny! It reminds me of when I found that one of the kids had written on something (can't remember what it was any more). This certain someone had written things such as "I love you Mommy" and sister and lo and behold the word "Elina". I can't imagine who it could have been, but when Elina was questioned, she swore it was her little sister who was probably 3 at the time and not yet writing….. she finally fessed up after some convincing. 🙂
