That RV of Ours – Wait Til You Hear This!!

Many, many of you followed along last fall, laughing with us across the country to NY and back to CO with our wild and crazy RV adventure. We were soooo excited!! Remember this picture?

We were giddy with anticipation!!

Yes, it was the dumbest thing we have done in a long time…..and we often wonder what in the heck we were thinkin’….remember this picture? Getting towed in the RV down I-70?

But hold on – just one second…..

You know how God can move? You know how scripture says “His ways are not our ways??” You now how no matter what – we are to thank Him? Ya’ know how only He can turn a stupid purchase into a divinely orchestrated treasure!!??

Listen to this:

We knew we had to get rid of it and wondered how. Although living in a mountainous area has its advantages we figured we might want to use those those sharp drop-offs to our advantage – but being a realist pushing it over a cliff would have its downsides {pun intended}….although at the moment I can’t possibly think of any. {j/k} Anyway, I mentioned to Dw maybe we should have a raffle at A Place Called Simplicity to raise money for the orphan….the catch would be that the winner would be stuck with it would have to get here to Colorado to pick it up.

Anyway, a friend at church, David, asked if we would want to put it at his home, where it would sit on a busy thoroughfare with a “for sale” sign on it. That sounded good to us. He could keep a commission too. After all, it does run well sort of. No, it really does run. If anyone were interested all problems are disclosed. And to someone mechanical, it might not be a bad thing, especially if they can park it at a campground and use it “as is”.

So the beloved RV has sat all spring on David and Paula’s lawn. We pass it driving to church and every time Elijah says, “there’s our RV.” Yup. And we have prayed and prayed. David and Paula have prayed…..and there has been some interest. But nothing solid enough to “show us the money”.

This past week David called to say that someone had vandalized the RV. They had smashed the front window, thrown things from the inside out to the lawn, etc. Not a pretty sight. Dw and I were wondering why we hadn’t done the “pushing it over the cliff” thing sooner?? j/k sort of

Oh great. Stupid RV. Like who’s gonna’ buy it now?

The sheriff’s department came to David and Paula’s home. They said they had a good idea who had done it, since there were mailbox posts vandalized nearby and they had found a mailbox post in the RV and they knew who was smashing the mailbox posts. {Can anyone spell “w-h-a-t* w-e-r-e* y-o-u*t-h-i-n-k-i-n-g*y-o-u-n-g* c-r-i-m-i-n-a-l*m-i-n-d”?} The sheriff was going to dust for fingerprints on the mailbox post that was found through the window of the RV. Gracious! We love law enforcement!!

So, as the story goes…a couple of days passed and a young man showed up at David and Paula’s home. He confessed to smashing our RV. Paula began to pray as he was there. And they started sharing Christ. And this young man prayed right there to ask Jesus into his heart!! Not even kidding!! So you know that stupid RV? Yeah, well all of a sudden we are throwing a party and screaming – We love that doggone RV!! Yippee Jesus!! God you are so good!! Look what you’ve done!! A young man comes to Christ because of it!!

The young man is going to meet with us. As we understand it, he was drunk at the time. He was being stupid. He is willing to pay for all repairs. So pray….Dw wants him to do community service at the River Church {ha!} and as we sat on the porch this morning {Whitey’s on vacation this week} sipping coffee and talking about it all, you know what that sweet husband of mine said through tears…”hmmmm, I seem to remember a young boy who smashed dump truck windshields at a lot near his home…and look what God has done with my life….” Yes, babe, look what God has done!!

And if you are interested….the RV is still available…=) Any takers??

  1. Paula is a SWEET, DEAR friend of mine (well, David, too!) and she shared this story with a group of moms yesterday…..we LOVED it!! I shared it with my kids and we prayed for this young man. Praying for the sale of your RV, too!

  2. If that's not the coolest story I've EVER HEARD… WOW!

What a strong reminder to me that God works, anytime, any place, and through ANY circumstance.

    That's just cool!

  3. Oh wow Linny, that is such an awesome story!! Just to think, you went through ALL that trouble on that trip so that this young man could have eternal life. Amazing!

  4. Wow tears are streaming down my face. Who knew so much love for our wonderful savior could come out of an RV that caused such so many stinker moves last summer!!!! Only GOD could use an RV to make another disciple!! I am so inspired by your family you make me want to be a better person!

  9. Loved your post, Linny, praise YHWH for the RV! 🙂

Have Dwight ever shared his testimony on your blog? If he used to smash windshield wipers when he was young, I wonder about the events causing him to make a decision to give his life over to Christ. 🙂

  10. What a great story…
God is good all the time… 🙂

Turn the RV into a play house for the kids… a fort… would require some modifications to make it safe but would be great for them… 🙂

  11. That's AWESOME!!!

OK Linny, if you have the gas tank removed, tires taken off you could take it to a recycling center and make a pretty penny on it. I wish we were closer to come take it off your hands.

  12. Rejoicing on a new life in Christ! Rejoicing that the RV has been redeemed! Oh, God is so faithful and good!! Praying that the young man involved will grow in his new found relationship! Just think how many will be praying for him now that he smashed that RV window? Who knew? God knew!

    Smiling in Michigan~

  13. Love, love, LOVE this story!

Hey, Linny, I stumbled across this blog today and just had to share it with you (if you don't know about it already). (I don't know how to make this into a link???)

    http://mycrazyadoption.org/

It's called My Crazy Adoption, and it immediately made me think of you and your Crazy Love challenges! She says on her blog "we are called to simply love". A kindred spirit! 🙂

  14. That story is priceless! we 100% understand the RV problem! we had one of those rvs and trips a few years ago… very funny looking back that is for sure. now we have a different one (that is also for sale) the one we have now has actually been awesome and NOT the nightmare the first one was… so it should be easier to sell, right!

Maybe try ebay or craigslist… we bought both of ours on ebay and sold the old one there. The one we have right now is for sale to pay for bringing our next child home… We are having a sale and are willing to sell (almost) anything in our house to raise the $$. When i fast and pray over our sale, i will also lift up your motorhome with it… So make sure you keep your bloggy followers posted about that thing! 🙂 We should be able to sell them the first week of August! 🙂 God Is doing great things in our family right now!

    God bless your family!!

  15. Time to find a little RV for the Memorial Box? 😉

It is amazing how that worked out. And as you were being towed last summer, God was giggling with anticipation, saying, "Wait till you see what's gonna happen next!"

    I LOVE this story!!

  16. What an incredible journey you are having. Beautiful family. If you have a few minutes, drop by for a visit. My blogs are The Camp Host Housewife's Meanderings and Levonne's Pretty Pics.

  17. LOVIN IT!!!!!I am currently looking for a new veichle but wrong continent I'm afraid (unless youwant us to camp out on your land in it for a while 😉 )Never-the-less it's good to hear it doesn't matter if I make a mistake in the choosing(car buying single mum is not my strongpoint!) cos He will use it for His glory anyhow! You are such an encouragement to us all. I have been thinking over and over all week how much you share of His Joy and thankfulness despite tough situations and demanding circumstances. Thanking God for you each and every time you spring to mind. Which is often at the moment!

  18. ONLY GOD! Praise the Lord for another soul SAVED!
That is just the greatest thing to read right before I head off to bed….I'm SO glad I stopped in tonight! I totally remember your RV fiasco…and I love how God turned it all for good! Of course He did!

  19. Oh my…this post brought me to tears…tears of giggling and tears of beautiful amazement at how our Lord works. I LOVE IT! God you are good ALL the time!!!! I always think of the illustration our pastor shares about a series of events in a young man and father's life…good events and terrible events but you see how God used each one for His perfect will and glory. The bottomline with each event was "how do you know if this is good or bad…" Only God knows the whole picture….awesome!!
