Blue Springs, Missouri

We are packin’ it up to leave Blue Springs, Missouri. Sweet spot. I was actually really excited to spend the night in Missouri. Call me crazy, but I just always loved the sound of Missouri and although I’ve driven through it a bit, I’ve never spent the night.

Yesterday Dw and I parted ways about 6:00pm. He and Graham have taken the truck and headed for home. They made it another 150 miles before they tucked in for the night. This mama was too pooped to pop. And those littles? They were pretty over the drive.

We will take it a bit more leisurely and get home, Lord willing, some time Saturday. I was laying in bed this morning and thinking….”hmmm, two days to get 850 miles? Not bad. Back roads. Antique stores. Memorial Box hunts….” and then it hit me…the car is loaded to the gills. He has the truck. Ugh. Might just have to strap a kid to the top of the car to fit some more Memorial Boxes in….so we drew straws and looks like Josh rides the roof rack. He’s biggest anyway, so that makes room for LOTS of Memorial Boxes.

Anyway, off to dress little ones and pack ‘er up. And say good-bye Missouri, hello Kansas! And before long, we’re going to move off Highway 70 and take to the back roads home….discovering the rural areas of the heartland of America…how fun is that?

Sure miss Graham though. He’s my riding buddy and seriously, I got all choked up that he was going to ride with daddy to keep him company. Graham is such a treasure and I texted him as we were sitting in the parking lot saying good-bye…”Sure you don’t want to stay? I miss you already.”….Later he texted me and said he kinda wished he had stayed and that he missed me too. Love that boy of mine. He’s a great help with the little ones too….and he introduced me to some awesome worship songs from his Ipod…and so I’m going to try to put them on the playlist.

For now, we’re off….more later, Lord willing.

  1. Oh, Linny, you are like right next door to us! So wish we could get together. I'd love to share face to face with you how God brought our newest Treasure into our hearts…and soon into our home.
    Love you, Friend!

  2. You could strap both Josh and Emma to the roof rack. They could keep each other company and you would have even more room with two big kids gone. Or put 'em all up there and fill up the car with stuff! Praying for safe travels for all of you.

  3. Fun Fun!! I LOVE taking the back roads and stopping every whip stitch!! When I went to MO last summer to visit a friend (3 moms and tons of kids) The friend I was riding with is a destination kind of girl. She was horrified each time I freaked out over an antique mall sign 😉 I did make her stop at a giant candle shop and I'm not into candles. They had a giant candle outside that I insisted on taking the kids picture in front of!! Enjoy the ride and put the whiners on the roof!! Sheri

  4. So. I've been lurking a while. *grin* but I'm not lurking anymore…cuz I just have to comment that I absolutely crack up at your sense of humor! You're hilarious!
And I love your faith. Your ability to see God's hand even in the difficult situations. Memorial Boxes are now on my to-do (quickly!) list for our family.
And your children are precious…what beautiful gifts and what a heritage!
I have an Emma too…and my prayer for her has been that she would follow after God's heart – it's encouraging to see your girl doing just that!
Okay…so that's probably enough for my first comment! ha! 🙂
Don't drive too fast & crazy – can't have Josh fallin' off the roof!

  5. AWW, Graham is the sweetest!

We went to NH and with all the antique places we passed I didn't find a Memorial box, can you believe it. All I kept saying was Linny finds them everywhere, where are they hiding? I had no luck. But I know a perfect one is out there for us.

Have safe ride home and enjoy the backroads. That was our plan when we were leaving NH but we got a late start and it didn't happen, unfortunately. I just love rural roads where there could be a surprise around any turn.

  6. I must know…I MUST! HOW do you stroll through an antique shop with little ones. I try it with just my two daughters, when my two sons are with friends, and I just can't accomplish it in a peaceful good way….that strolling through an antique shop is suppose to be in my mind.

    Tell me your secret.

Also, I came across a find the other day, and thought…OH OH< this would make a lovely memorial box for Linny to give away. I would love to go back and get it and donate it to your cause….

I will take a pic and send it to you.

  7. How AWESOME!! You have tons of followers in this neck of the woods. I live north of I-70 at the Higginsville Junction area. It's mile 49 and Blue Springs would have been mile marker 20. So, you would have passed us by before stopping for the night. Mostly all the ladies I know in the greater KC area who have done international adoptions follow your blog. Maybe someone waved to you while you stayed in Blue Springs. There's an AMAZING Chinese restaurant up there that MANY of my friends haunt.

I hope you and the children have a lovely drive today. I drove to Overland Park, south of KC earlier and also went there yesterday to a Ladies Bible study. Both days have had some of the most GORGEOUS weather. I truly hope it is a fabulous drive this afternoon for you. I get where you are coming from and rarely use the same route home from my visits to see the grandparents in Illinois. I LOVE LOVE finding tiny little farm towns and driving around the "town square" and seeing old courthouses. Backroads ROCK!!

Have a very BLESSED trip!! May the Lord encourage you abundantly for all the times your blog and personal stories have impacted and touched the hearts of others.

    Hugs from a cyber friend!!
