Small Town America

How my heart loves small town America…
and my eyes well with tears when I see
the American flags lining the streets
and big ol’ gorgeous homes
sporting bay windows with lace curtains and shutters
and front porches beckoning for friends to sit a spell

and bunting flags hang on white fences

where distinguished red doors call to passersby
and attic windows peak over Main Street

and an old apple cider mill waits for the apples to be ripe enough
to get the mill running for one more season…

Am I the only one completely smitten with small town America??!!

  1. I love small town America too! I wish I lived there. 🙁 Maybe someday… Loved these pictures. I especially like the houses with the welcoming front porches.

    Thanks for sharing!

  2. I'm with you girl!! I love it too. It reminds me of growing up in North Carolina:O) But, here in WA state out on Harstine Island, not 15 minutes from my house…we have an old fashioned cider squeeze. Every fall, people from all over bring apples and they run the presses, and the kids join in, and help feed the press the apples. Everyone walks around in rubber boots holding candy apples or apple fritters, and we have a blast. You should come visit. I'm not too far from Ty, just sayin… ;O)

Have a wonderful time back east. I really wish I could be visiting there in the fall. I've never seen anything like it!!! I love small town NY in the fall:O)

    Love ya,
    jenn

  3. Oh no, my dear, you are not the only one who enjoys small town America. I dream of one day leaving this semi-big city I live in for a more quaint town community. Maybe God will provide the opportunity. 🙂

Thanks for sharing the pictures! My favorite is of the red-doored home. It grabs your attention immediately and beckons for visitors to stop by. But, I so adore the wraparound porch on the 3rd home. Lovely!

  4. Oh I can't tell you how much I wish I could live there!! In every single one of those houses. Especially the yellow one though- because the red door rocks and red is my favorite. Soooo tired of the busyness of CA!

  5. Beautiful reminds me of when I lived in that part of the world. NOthing similar where I am in Australia. Only thing I don't see any comfortable chairs or a swing on that inviting front porch. Shame about that.

Hope you are having a wonderful rest.

  6. I stumbled onto your blog from a friend of a friend and I am so glad I did. Wow! I love it and all that you're about. May the Lord richly bless you and keep you – your family is precious. I'll be back~

  7. Headed up to NY (my parents live in small town America up there too) and we're always excited. We can walk all over town (the kids love that) and the Apple Farm is my favorite! 😉 Enjoy your time!

  8. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Small Town America!! We're taking the kids to North Dakota next summer for my family's hometown 125th anniversary. They love being up there. Thanks for sharing the fabulous houses! Enjoy your visit.

  9. My husband is from a tiny town in Pa. in the Allegheny Plateau….I am originally from a tiny town in the upper pen. of MI. making me a U per, eh!!! LOL and then lived in a tiny town in central WI., Medford, WI. where Tombstone pizza is from…LOVE small town America…This is where the back bone of America lives….
Thanks for the wonderful pictures of houses….I would live in any one of them….

  10. I am blessed as I live in small town America! I was raised in a large town in Florida and enjoyed the theater in the round every winter, the play houses, museums etc. Imagine my utter shock when I moved to Athens, TN to attend college. Small town was a dud town to me at 18 years of age. Now, I totally appreciate the advantages of a small town. The downside to a small town is that everyone knows 'your business'. God brought me here 44 years ago and here I will stay until He has another plan for me. God blesses every town, village and city. May He continue to bless you and your family.

  11. Love 'em Linny…
the pictures remind me of towns around Lenox, MA where my hubby's Mom lives… and some towns around here grown way too out 🙁 …
    thanks for all your pictures…
    Hugs for everyone,
    Barbara 🙂

  12. I love them too! They seem to say "welcome home…you belong here" to me….and I can almost feel the presence of those who made memories there long ago…

I am so proud to live in America!:)

    Love and blessings,
    Robin

  13. The pictures are beautiful! Makes me want to live there too. I love the houses!!!! I'm right there with ya. Small town America is wonderful 🙂 Drive safe on your way back. We miss you guys here in DGO!

  14. No you are not the only one 🙂 I was born and raised (see, small town southern style) in small town America, and still live in a small town. Praising Jesus for that!

    So enjoying your journey!
