She Ain’t Heavy, She’s His Daughter

Last week the beautiful Colorado National Forest
was screamin’ our names and we just had to go.

I lined all our current kids {minus Autumn who had to work} from oldest to youngest {left to right}.
Emma, Graham, S, L, Liberty, A, Jubilee, Isaiah, Elizabeth and Elijah.
Can’t ya’ just picture Ruby Grace in my front pack?
Seriously, aren’t pinecones and pine needles stunning?
And the smell?  Tantalizing!!

At the top we stopped to eat the lunches we had packed.

Little A said that it was one of the funnest days she ever had.
Sweet memories.

Emma was smiling and feeling okay….
Isaiah Samuel and Elijah Mueller loved, loved, loved the hike.

Then suddenly Emma began to feel really, really awful.
She had to lean against L for support.
Emmy is never a complainer.
Ever.
So we knew she must have felt horrible.

She suddenly felt really, really horrible.
And started to pass out.
She just fell over in the dirt
{so-not-her to fall over in dirt}.
She was whiter than any white I have ever seen in my 52 years.
She could not even hold herself up.
And so the hike was cut short and daddy literally carried her the entire way out of the National Forest.
I walked beside them holding her on his back,
because she could not even hold on herself.
The next day she felt much better.
Isaiah has asked almost every day if we could go hiking again.  I said, “Isaiah, did you love hiking?”
“Yeah, except the part when Emma got sick.”
Sweet memories
 {well, except maybe the Emmy-getting-sick part.}

PS  We did figure out exactly what was wrong.  Not to worry.  She’s fine.  Really.

  1. Praying for Miss Emma, Time to see the doctor for a check up poor dear. Daddy is such a blessing she is so very lucky to have a great daddy! Miss Jubee is looking fantastic and is turning into a real beauty, what a beautiful smile. The little one's are growing so fast. (I say the same thing about Sailor (2) I feel like I just brought her home last month and the time thief came. I am so excited to see how Miss Ruby will fit into the family. I know she will be spoiled rotten she will have all the Sib's tied around her tiny finger the first day!!! God has some great plans for her and your family, for he has all of you in the palm of his hand's.

  2. Oh my goodness – I'm so sorry to hear about Emma. Could it be the altitude, and possible heat. That's so frightening. I hope she is okay now. Other than that – your family hike sounds so fantastic – and I love the pictures. How I would love to be right there with all of you. Praying for Emma, Ruby Grace, all of our other prayers requests, and your beautiful family. xoxoxo

  3. Looks like fun (except Emma getting sick). I'm so glad she's feeling better, that's scary.
We're in the process of moving so I'm super behind on my blogs so I have to say….
AAAAHHHH!!! CONGRATULATIONS! So excited to hear more about Ruby Grace! Sending up a prayer right now.

  4. So glad you all got it figured out….:o)

loved the pictures, there is nothing better than being in Dad's Cathedral sharing memories with the family…

Except for the Emma getting sick part of course.:o)

If you hadn't stressed that she is not a complainer EVER, I would have guessed that she just wanted a free ride out on DEAR OLD DAD…It was good to see him outa the crawl space enjoying the sunshine:o) and his fingers seem to be working just fine to….looks like he was holding onto that Sandwich pretty good. LOL

Maybe he could see his way clear to typing a little on his blog???? *hint* *hint*

    Life is GOOD!!!!!!! :o)

  5. praying emma will be totally ok and it kinda sounds like an allergic reaction. i had one to peanuts like that a few years ago, very very unexpected.
the whole family just finished a very impassioned prayer for dear little Ruby to heal without surgery! we pray the surgeons mouths will fall open in praise when they come to check on baby and she can come home sooooooooon to daddy's arms and momma's kisses! how beautiful, how very beautiful is this miracle! praise God!!!!

  6. Bless her heart! I'm so glad she is o.k. I've been reading your posts and you are such an inspiration to my family. We have 2 biological children and have been called to adopt more. We are in the process of adopting 2 (hopefully we can adopt 2 on our first trip) special needs children from China. By going through this process, God has really been working on my husband and I. We have a feeling that this will not be our last calling to adopt and your story inspires us on how it can be accomplished. Thank you for your dedication! We have started a blog-spot here (still aren't completely sure of what we are doing, but hopefully we will learn! lol)

  7. I'm glad Emma is feeling better and even though she felt just awful, I love the photo of her leaning against the other girl! She is a beautiful girl and I enjoy reading about your family and keeping up on Emmy's blog while they were in Uganda last. What a fun, loving, caring family you have!
