Sunday Night from Phoenix Children’s

Today Dw and I traded places.  The kids had been really missing me and I was really, really missing them.  Because of RSV no one under 12 is permitted in the hospital.  I had not seen them since Wednesday.
Dw brought them to the parking lot and I came and took them to church while he spent the day with our little gem.

So there are some things that are pretty concerning to the doctors.
{1} Ruby’s sodium level will just not come up.  Since they discovered her problem sodium level back in early November [when she was first admitted to the hospital] we have been sprinkling as much salt as tolerable on each layer of food she eats, but her level is still too low.  She can’t tolerate it in her formula  – she throws it right back up.

They told us this morning that they will not even consider sending her home until it rises and stabilizes.
{2}  Ruby is still very groggy and difficult to wake.  When she is awake she is not really smiling or ‘talking’.
It could be that the seizure medicine is not the right strength or she is just getting used to it.
All that being said, we could really use prayer that her sodium level would be healed by the Lord and that the doctors would have wisdom about the amount of seizure medicine she is taking.  We need her to wake up and return to her normal precious little self.
Lastly,
this morning when Ruby’s neurosurgeon came in.
he actually asked me if I had told you bloggy friends about the contaminated probe and how they had to send for another one from St. Josephs.
 I told him I had.
Laughing he said, “I knew you would!”
I asked if I could take a picture of him.
He turned kind of red and then agreed.
I explained to him that I have been telling you all how wonderful he is and I was betting that many of you would love to ‘meet’ him.  Personally speaking, I love seeing a picture of someone I hear people raving so much about!
We’ve had many doctors and surgeons over the years, but Dr. Shafron stands above the crowd.  His tender heart toward Ruby was so evident from the moment we met him.  He explains in great detail everything.  He is down-to-earth, has a great sense of humor and is easy to talk to.  And to top it off – he amazingly skilled!  The entire package in one guy – not seen very often, right?
We cannot thank the Lord enough for leading us to Dr. Shafron and we cannot thank each of you, your kids and your family for continuing to pray for our little treasure.
xo
PS There will not be a Memorial Box Monday tomorrow.
