From the Emergency Room

I didn’t tell anyone but this past week we brought Ruby to the Emergency Room.  She had been far too lethargic and sleepy.  They ran a huge battery of tests and said that they couldn’t find anything.
We limped through the week.
She did not want to eat, sleeping far too long….not much interaction.  Since her form of hydrocephalus is extremely rare there is no “protocol” to follow.
Today though, was worse than ever.  She has not eaten since morning.  She has not wanted to wake at all.   Dw had taken Liberty out for a long-awaited ‘date’….but Graham said to me, “Mom, we have to take her.”
 That’s all I needed.
I was ready to go in minutes.  Emma and Josh {who is visiting as well} swung into gear watching the little ones.  Karl and Autumn are here visiting as well and will help with the kids.
Anyway, Graham and Savannah rode with Ruby and I to the hospital.
When the triage nurse came to where I was standing a few minutes ago, I told her how I have been unable to wake her.
She shook her.
Ruby did not respond at all.
Into a room we went without even another second of waiting.  Instantly she was surrounded by doctors and nurses.
This little treasure, who has stolen the world’s heart clearly has something going on.
Would you please pray with us for Almighty God’s touch?
For wisdom?
For peace?
Dw is on his way to the hospital in about 20 minutes.

  1. Praying for the sweet little girl who continues to reach into hearts, and prayer for her parents and family to see her through another difficult day and to know God is holding all of you in the palm of His hands.

  2. I didn't de-lurk on the last post, but I will now. Praying for you and your precious Ruby Grace, as well as your whole family. God, we come before you now and pray that You would touch Ruby right now and bring healing to her body. Give the doctors wisdom and let Your peace abound in that hospital and this amazing family right now. In the sweet name of Jesus, Amen.

  3. Praying!

My daughter first had surgery a year ago for her hydrocephalus, (first since she came to be part of our fmaily). She began to go downhill in the hospital, so we watched her to see if she would need a second surgery. It got to the point where I could not wake her, and they decided to do surgery. It was the longest few hours of my life, (hours leading up to surgery). However, immediately after surgery, in PACU even, she was almost like new!

I know Ruby's is much more extreme than my daughters, but know that there is a mama who feels your pain and is praying for y'all!

  5. Our whole family is praying for sweet Ruby and you all… May our great God grant you all peace and clear minds for the Doctors as they look at Ruby… Praying for the Lord's healing touch on Ruby right now!

  6. I'm what I guess you could call a "lurker". 🙂 I am a college student in Texas and faithfully read your blog. I love it and have come to love hearing about your family (especially cute lil' miss ruby!).

This may have been me putting God on something that wasn't him but a few months back when Ruby was going in for the surgery to relieve the fluids from her brain (I believe.. this probably isn't accurate. forgive me), I had read and was praying for her and had a splitting headache that night and couldn't sleep. I had had enough water, and had eaten enough and do not usually get headaches unless either of those has not happened. I chalked it up to being about Ruby and prayed until I fell asleep. I am praying for her tonight and for the family! Keep us update

Was just about to hit the send button when this verse came into my mind.
" Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you or forsake you."

  11. Hope and pray you find out what is going on. I am coming out of lurking and want you to know I referred a friend to your blog this weekend as she and her family are now sponsoring a child in Africa. She can't wait to meet "their" daughter one day.

  12. That must be why the Lord woke me last night…I got up and went to the computer and saw a random post on facebook about Ruby…so I went to your blog and saw this post. Started praying for her…and you.
