Memorial Box Monday: SOLD!

We {often} set aside Mondays to remember…. remembering the faithfulness of God.  Much like the Israelites were told by God to gather stones and set them in a pile to constantly be reminded of how God had moved on their behalf.  They were to tell their children, their children’s children and so on.

Although our family does not use stones, we have a Memorial Box.  It sits in our family room, filled with small tangible objects, each representing a story of God’s faithfulness.  Over the years of sharing over here at Our Place Called Simplicity I have shared approximately 120+ stories that are some of our Memorial Box stories.  There are still a bazillion more I could share {of course we’ve been married almost 34 years!}.

The other day I was talking to a friend and she said, “I don’t think I have any Memorial Box stories like you have.  Mine are all pretty average.”  Then she went on to tell me a story that was really miraculous.  We reminded our friend that God is always at work around us.  He loves when we share His faithfulness and it is such an encouragement to others!  And what often happens is that people’s memories are triggered when they hear others stories!

Either way, God gets all the glory!

Today’s Memorial Box story is fresh – it just happened a few days ago.

When the Lord brought Ruby to our family, we were given the sweetest treasure.  Of course, as most of you know, her arrival meant leaving 20 years of senior pastoring, our new home {that we had just built after losing our beloved log home to fire}, leaving our friends of 7.5 years and moving to a rental in a new city and new state.  So many changes!

Although we have moved out of state on several occasions, leaving a home behind to sell is not what we {or anyone else I’m sure} would call “a good time”.   Somehow though, God prepares us for each situation that we have to face and knowing how faithful He has been in the past, reminds us that His faithfulness is still at work today!

When we knew we had to leave Colorado, both Dw and I had great peace {in previous moves out-of-state I had been so anxious about leaving a home behind to sell.}.  But this time, I realized, if the Lord had brought us Ruby Grace, He would bring a buyer for our home.  We just had to trust Him.

{taken the night of the 2010 Girlfriends {women’s} Ministry Christmas party at our home – 80 ladies came!}

Well the other day I was talking to the Lord about it.  Before long the 3 acres would need to be mowed {another expense}.  Before long the flower beds would need watering – and I had worked sooo hard to plant them all after the fire.  But, after finishing sharing with Him how I felt, I was flooded with a fresh dose His peace.  I just knew He was working behind the scenes.

Literally within a day or two of that conversation with the Lord, Dw got a phone call from a friend.  And not just any friend, but his best friend from Colorado.  {They talk almost every day.}  Anyway, his best friend said that they had gone to look at our home.  Well Dw and I giggled, “Seriously?”  And then a day or two later he called and said they were taking lawn chairs over to sit on the porch at night and see “how it felt”.

And sure enough, on Friday, we signed the contracts and crazy of crazies, these close friends of ours bought our home.  We couldn’t think of anyone we’d rather have in our sweet home!  They are the friends who always had our back.  Always.  And someday, if the Lord allows us to travel through the area, they will surely allow us to stop by to sit on the porch a bit and let the kids romp as they used to.

Faithful God.  Always working behind the scenes.

What about you?  What has He done for you? Small or large, He is the same God at work and He is always faithful.   Link your stories below…because there are a whole bunch of people who love reading others stories of God’s faithfulness.

  1. As I am not blogging anymore, I will put my story here and try to be short and sweet…
We have lived in our current home for 5 years. I love it here, and this home was and is very much a gift from God! We bought it during a very rough season in our life and His faithfulness in providing for it has been nothing short of astounding. It is over 100 years old and will always have things that need fixing. We have slowly replaced windows, painted, done repairs and made it our own. I love to garden, and we have a large lot and a river in the backyard, but are in town so it is convenient too. I have put in raised beds for our veggies, and various other flower and herb beds and planted trees, etc. There is one area of the yard that I have always hated! There was a terraced area, with old wooden landscape timbers there were rotting and 2 old trees that were dying. From the first year that we lived here, I wanted to redo this area with rocks, but always thought it would be too expensive and too much work and so had thought it impossible. Well this year, they absolutely had to be redone as they were completely falling apart. God worked everything out in such a beautiful way. We found rocks in a farm field (the very field we were planning to build in before we bought this house…), our high schoolers are earning $ for a mission trip this summer and were able to do all of the deconstruction and rock hauling, we were able to find a trailer to haul the rocks and a friend of my husband's (who is not working currently) did all of the actual landscaping/terracing. The only $ we have spent will be benefiting the mission trip and a friend who is currently not working (paying it forward??). And I have the yard that I had dreamed of but could not believe would happen. We put all of this in 2 weeks ago and God has been showing me so many verses about Rocks and keeps reminding me that He gives GOOD gifts to His children and He cares about even the small things. I never would have considered praying for ROCKS!! I am planning on using smaller stones to write blessings on and hide in my garden making it a large memorial garden 🙂
(Linny- go check my pics out on facebook!!)

  2. Linny~thank you so much for doing this great blog hop. It has been a great opportunity to go back and look for God's hand…to remember what He has done and to see afresh what He is doing each day. I understand how the woman you were talking to felt…I often feel the same…as if my miracles are smaller than yours, but your words are true~God is faithful and true and alive and working and we just need to open our eyes to see.
    Keep up the God work.

  3. Linny, thank you so much for sharing this, it blessed me so much! God is so faithful! I know He was happy to help you guys wrap up the details of your Colorado life and how sweet that He did so through your friends! Now you will still be connected there. You have reminded me again that He does indeed care about all the details of my life and He will work them out in His own time.
    Breathing in His peace,
    Robin C.

  4. God is so good. His timing is always perfect and His faithfulness is constant and forever. Linny, thanks for always reminding us and giving God such praise.

  5. That is so cool!

Hey, we got to hold our new little love this weekend for 2 days. I kept thinking of Ruby the entire time because no matter how hard he is to hold due to his spastic limbs I just can't put him down. I kept thinking about your blog post about not putting Ruby in a wheelchair yet. Oh how I wish more people understood the treasures these kiddos are. Our little man has a brother with severe CP needing a home if you are needing to add to your household again 😉

Tell Emma I am going to have my Brownies busy making about 50 snack bags in a couple of hours 🙂 I am sooo excited to have them do this project!

    Have a wonderful day!

    1. Oh my sweet friend, you totally get it. I can't wait to see your boy in your arms…and I bet he and Ruby would be buddies…we are planning a trip east this summer???

  6. That is wonderful! I hope you'll be able to visit in the future. My husband and I bought our first house in 2007 and spent the entire year remodeling…we did all the work ourselves and it was a labor of love! We had to move suddenly in 2008, and thought we would have no problem selling the house (we had really transformed it, after all!) Well, 4 years later, it is still on the market…the area was hit HARD by the collapse of the housing market, and it still hasn't recovered. It is frustrating paying a mortgage on an empty house, but I'm confident that the Lord will use this story for good one day!

    1. Ugh. No doubt, He has your situation under control, but I am so sorry…some of the times we moved out of state it took forever {not four years} but beyond 'normal'…so this is such a blessing that this was relatively short. I will pray, as the Lord brings you to mind, that God would sell your place. Have you thought about having friends and family fast for the sale? I would!

  7. That is so exciting! I know that it is just nice to have that off your plate – especially to a dear friend. So happy for you guys. We've moved so much, I think God is the ultimate real estate agent! Love you guys!

  8. Linny, Houses selling seem almost unheard of now…. as you say though BUT GOD. Amen. I'm so thankful that you and DW were obedient to take the leap of faith and to lay it all down. WOW To God be the Glory Great things He has done.

Ruby is beyond precious, I can't get over that picture of her sitting up with Em holding her. Ahhh- so cute! I'm so excited to read your book someday! Love you and your family, you guys encourage me daily, as I run this race to Jesus (some days I get so weary, but I'm so thankful that God uses The Body to encourage and love one another when the world can be so hurtful.) There was a line that you wrote to me in the last email you replied back to that encouraged me so much this week and you don't even know the depth of what's going on in my world. I believe it was from the Lord, in it you said to me "persist". I cry as I write this. I can't tell you how much that one sentence helped me this week. Thank you for your faithfulness to Him. He is the best isn't He?! There is none like Jesus.
