A Ruby Scare Followed by the Power of Prayer

Ruby woke up today smiling and playing.

But after breakfast she went to sleep.

Hmmm.

A bit odd, I mused, but maybe she’s just plumb wore out.

Lunch she wasn’t hungry.

And promptly fell asleep again.

Okay, now that’s really odd.

Then, she suddenly started to make an odd noise.  I was actually driving and Dw was trying to sleep for a bit.  Graham was next to her and I said, “What is that noise she is making?”

Graham wasn’t sure.  It was almost a sound of stress.

Next she started throwing up.

We got off I-40 and she could hardly wake while throwing up.  Her one eye was turning in.

The eye turning in is not a good sign.

Not in babies with hydrocephalus.

Ugh.

We were 50 miles to Amarillo.

Babies with hydrocephalus don’t have a lot of time to mess around.  We started praying and got in the car heading to Amarillo.

I texted a few close friends and asked them to pray.  I tweeted for prayer and I also asked Renee to send an email to the Knee Team.

Seriously friends, Ruby’s brain is fragile.  Her situation can change in a moment.

As we drove we were praying hard.  Elijah was sitting on the left side of Ruby {and I was on her right side}. That big brother of hers loves her to pieces. He had one hand on her and one hand lifted in the air and all he kept saying was, “God is mighty.  God is mighty.  God is mighty.”  If it wasn’t such a serious moment I would have loved to snap a picture.  His intense prayer, calling on our faithful God.

My bloggy-turned real life friend Laura is a pediatrician in Kentucky.  She texted me where a neurosurgeon was in Amarillo.  Graham was googling it.  We got to the parking lot and thought we ought to see how she was before going in.

Instantly she was absolutely fine.  She woke up and was smiling and cooing and happy as a clam.

There is not a doubt in any of our minds that the power of prayer touched our little Ruby.

We are now heading toward Albuquerque.  She is happy and alert.   She ate some sweet potatoes {her favorite}.

Only the Lord.

Only, only, only Him.

Thank you to all of you who prayed.

He is faithful and He is, indeed, mighty {in the words of big brother Elijah}.

Please, if you think of us, pray us home!

    1. Thank you for your continued prayers. We cannot wait to get home. For real. It's been a blast. But by the time we are done it will be 6,000+ miles with a pile of kids and 2 dogs. Time to regroup. And head back to Colorado in a week. haha.

    1. We did not go for her to be checked. They would have looked at us like we were crazy. She was happy as can be. And the tests that would determine any problem are not good for her to be exposed to unless completely necessary. She does have an appt with HER neurosurgeon on Tuesday already, so we will tell him all about it then. Sleeping in ABQ tonight…and there is a neurosurgeon there, should Ruby need one in the night. Lord willing we will all get a great night sleep to prepare for the final leg of the journey home.

    1. So many times I find Elijah laying beside Ruby on the floor singing to her. Every time he prays {and I mean every time} he prays for God to heal her and thanks the Lord for bringing her home to us. He is more than smitten with her…and her love for him is mutual. So sweet to watch.

    1. He is mighty. If His move in your life seems confusing, I would suggest fasting for peace as you seek Him. He is faithful and He will whisper to those who fear him {Ps 25:14}…

  1. Wow, we are praising God with you for Ruby turning around today! We will pray for continued good health for Ruby and all on the last leg of the journey!:) Praying you home to Phoenix!:) You almost there:)

  2. Go Ruby Grace! I think it is all the positive energy and prayers that keep her going along with the fact that Ruby just wants to stay here. I know that before you and your family came into her life she was not surrounded by the energy field of love she is now surrounded by, but even then she was such a fighter. I remember peaking into her room at Sanyu before Dwight and the GO team had arrived to the babies home (Since she was new to the babies home and she was so weak she was in the little private room). Even though I was not sick I was too scared to get close to her because I didn't want to expose her to any germs(It was only thanks to Dwight's encouragement that I got the courage to hold her), so I would just smile at her and try to say soothing things. As frail as she was she just had this fight in her eyes that said "I am just going to keep on living". Regardless of the power of God, people have free will, and when we get close to the edge I think this can apply to life and death. I don't know why she did back when her life was so difficult, but she chose to stay on planet earth with us. I am so happy that you came into her life to show her that she made the right choice.

  3. So scary! I just can't imagine what people who don't have God in their lives do in panic situations! He has had your Ruby in the palm of His hand since the very beginning. Another miracle healing today for us all to be reminded of His great power and love! That boy of yours has completely stolen my heart. How can you not just be so proud of him! What a big brother for anyone to have, it's so special!

  4. Tears here, I missed what happened as I was away from home..I love how Elijah prayed for her. So sorry for the scare, but so happy that everything is alright 🙂

  5. Tell Elijah that I so loved his prayer. Two little words that said so much …

Praying for a safe trip home and for a beautiful wedding for Autumn and Karl.
