Friends Along Life’s Journey…

Ya’ know how every now and then you meet a friend who just blesses your life over and over and over?    Not only is she sweet and fun, she is willing to help when needed, loves your kids unconditionally, loves you in spite of yourself and seriously has your back {no matter what}.

Women and friendships is an intriguing thing.  I have read as many books as I could find on the friendships of women.  I have led Bible studies about women and their friendships.  There is something so powerful about them, but I venture a guess that very few really grasp what the Lord had intended for women in their friendships!

And as the Lord would have it on my journey in life, I met a precious young woman named Megan.

Although I am old enough to be her mama, the Lord blessed my life abundantly by moving her and her family to Durango the last year we pastored there.  {They have since moved on to Texas.}  I told Megan:  “I really think the Lord moved you to Durango, cause He knew how much I needed your friendship.”  She was such a blessing in so many ways to the kids, our family and me personally.

And when Dw and the kids were packing up the house to move our stuff to Phoenix, it was Megan who worked tirelessly with them to pack it all up.  We can never thank her enough for her kindness toward us.

One bright spot in all of this moving stuff… is that Megan’s grandma lives in Phoenix and every now and then she comes to visit!

Well the other day Megan posted pictures of their new home in Texas and in the pictures was this wall art.

My eyes welled with tears when I read it.  I was going through something at that moment and when I read it, I knew that the Lord was speaking to me through it.   I wrote privately to her and told her how beautiful it was and the next thing I knew, she had sent me hers.

And so now this beautiful wall art hangs in my kitchen/dining room.  Megan had made it.  {She made her kids bunk beds too – you should see them – this girl has unbelievable talent!}

Have you ever heard or read it before?  I had not.

Written by Mother Theresa?

Powerful.

Made and given to me by my friend Megan?

 Priceless.

  1. It is beautiful, Linny….she is quite a dear friend to take it right off the wall and send it to you. You are such a blessing to so many others, I am rejoicing at how God has blessed you back with Megan…

    1. When I wrote her and told her how moved I was by it, she insisted she send it to me. She said she had wanted to before she left Durango, but hadn't wanted me to feel obligated to put it on my wall. Isn't it so powerful? If the world lived by that, {which is really God's commands} what a different place it would be!

  2. Oh Linny, thank you so much for your kind words. I am so thankful for your friendship and the brief times we had together in Durango. I'm glad I was able to be a blessing to you in the little things. You have been such a blessing to me as well. What a wonderful example you are to me and a wonderful friend. Thank you for praying with me tonight!! God knows I needed that phone call and your prayers! Love you!! Now I've gotta work on finding some friends I can "give my best" to here in TX.

  3. Love it! How'd she make it? How the heck did she make bunk beds?!?! I need another set… Just in case she's reading this and wants to mail me some;)
    What a sweet friend!
    Blessings,
    Rebecca

    1. I am going to go back into the post {a little later today} and post a picture of her bunk beds. Seriously, they are truly gorgeous. So go back later and check… this is one determined, gifted and precious young woman!

  4. HI Linny, Oh girl you know we all need friends like Megan(but then I also know you are one of those rare jewels too). Love the piece of art but more the saying. You are blessed because you bless others. Hey, I wanted to ask if you ever hear from our mutual blogging friend, Carol-in Canada? She no longer blogs and I tried emailing but haven't heard back-just worried about her and figured you might know.
    Sending love your way tonight.

  5. Wow. I had never read that but needed to be reminded of the "Be Honest and Sincere Anyway". I'm so thankful God has blessed you and will continue to bless you with meaningful, female friendships. They are like hugs straight from the Lord.

    1. that was my question too: Does she sell them? Or would she make a limited edition for the people from here who want them? 🙂

I read this quote just a few days ago, and loved it. Even better in a plaque on my wall!

  6. What a sweet sweet gift! Friends are so very precious. I have a friend who moved to Kansas 1 1/2 years ago and is still struggling with finding a friend.

We went to Pagosa Springs to visit some of our friends who are in the same ministry we are. This morning before we got ready to leave we wanted a picture taken all all us 3 couples and Bill and Barb had a friend who just had pulled up so we asked him if he would do the honors. As we were talking Barb asked how the newlyweds were doing and said the Bob's son had recently gotten married which was so wonderful because he had been in a motorcyle accident and almost died. This was sounding very familiar so I asked who the bride was- yup, Bob is Karl's dad!! So nice to meet him – I told him I follow your blog and had been praying for his son when it all happened-

    1. Oh.my.gracious!! That is so cool! Bob and Vicki are such wonderful people. Autumn really was blessed to have them as her in-loves. Boy oh boy friend, we have had some crazy encounters, haven't we?

  7. A beautiful piece! This quote, minus the last two sentences, was on a poster in the back of one of the university classrooms I taught in in China. Took me back there when I saw this here! I'll join the crowd in saying I'd love to have one. 🙂

  8. Thank you all for the lovely comments about the gift I gave to Linny. For those who commented that they're interested in purchasing this, send me an email at simplythriftymom at gmail dot com. I'm heading out of town for a couple weeks but when I get back, I promise to contact you and either give you information on making your own or let you know how much I'd sell them for. I'd be happy to take some orders but they're probably going to cost around $75 to cover labor, supplies and shipping. I'm thinking about making some other types as well made of Scripture verses or other quotes…we'll see what I can come up with.

For those that asked about making bunk beds, I used the plans found on Ana White's blog. There are plans for hundreds of amazing projects on there! I had never built anything in my life until last year. I've now made toddler picnic tables, bunk beds, a dollhouse and these quote boards. Start building today! http://ana-white.com/2011/01/plans/twin-over-full-simple-bunk-bed-plans

  9. So cool to see a blog post about one of my favorite people 🙂 My husband and I often talk about her and what an amazing example she is of a loving, submissive wife and self-sacrificing friend (now you know why your ears have been burning, Megan!!). I am also one who is so grateful to have this particular friend in my life. I am better for having known her! Just watch your car if she is backing up around you…lol! (remember that incident,Megan??)

  10. What a sweet post about my dear sister. She truely is a gem. I love her so much and feel blessed to be able to call her my sister and my friend. I also loved the saying on her wall. At some point I'm going to have to have her make one with me.

Thank-you for being such a good friend to her. She loves you and your sweet family. You have truely been a blessing to her. I just pray that she can find another friend like that in Texas. True, deep and lasting friendships are sometimes hard to find. If only we could always have friends like her in our lives-close enough to come and pack up the house when we're moving.
