Sandy and You

I was in  college in Downtown Buffalo during the Blizzard of 77.
It would probably only be remembered by those who were living there at the time, but there is no doubt, lives were lost in the days of endless blinding snow.    It was ridiculous!  Drifts were so high that we could actually climb them and touch the light in the center of the intersection.
Having a treasure with significant special needs, who at any moment might need to be transported to the hospital, I look at storms from maybe an angle that many others wouldn’t.
Our family would like to be lifting up our bloggy friends that could possibly be affected by Sandy.
So if you feel like placing your name in the comments and your geographic location, our family {and I’m sure many others} will be going thru the list and praying for all of you and any special concerns you might have.
In the meantime, we will be watching the news and praying for God’s sovereign protection over each of you and yours!
*Pretty weary and worn out so we will be postponing Memorial Box Monday.
Always thankful for His continual faithfulness.*

  1. WE are smack dab in the middle of the storm right now in Lancaster, PA. Water is starting to come in the sump pump but thankfully we still have power!
And the shared list comes out in a couple of hours.
And my cousin and wife have been waiting and waiting for a special little boy to be listed and TONIGHT is the NIGHT.
BUT their agency is smack dab in the middle of the storm and may not have power to lock his file.
PLEASE pray that God will move mightly. We look forward to the rainbow after the storm!
    THANKS!

  2. we are right outside of the Philly area. starting to get bad here. we are together and safe. Please pray that our electricity stays on. our youngest is fed via a feeding pump which needs electricity. we do have a back up plan to feed him if we need it but prefer not to. Thank you!!!!!

    1. See! As soon as I read your request, my eyes welled with tears. There is no doubt that we will pray! When Emma was on a heart monitor as a baby, we lost power and had to leave to friends in another city who still had power. It was a concerning time. xo

  3. My name is Jen, and our family lives in Northwest Pennsylvania (Erie County). My son and I are safe at home, but my husband is a volunteer firefighter/EMT and has already been out most of the evening. He may not get home for any sleep before work. Please pray that he and his fellow emergency workers in our area stay safe and out of harm's way tonight. He is always safe, but a firefighter's wife always worries. We are praying for everyone affected by this storm. Thank you Linny.

  4. Well, RI in the path of Sandy, so i made some apple pies, lol!!! And some pumpkin pies while we wait.

We would love you to pray specifically that we don't flood again and that our neighbors tree doesn't fall on our house.I always worry about that tree. Leans right over us.

    Thank you Saunders family!!!!

    1. I actually mentioned you in this post, but backspaced thinking, "if I mention one, I might offend another"…but I know where you live girlfriend and I was praying for all you….And go ahead, make some pies during the storm and cause me to be jealous…just sayin'…

  5. We live in Northwest Pennsylvania (Erie County). My son and I are safe at home, but my husband is a volunteer firefighter/EMT and has already been out most of the evening. He probably won't get home for much sleep tonight. Please pray that he and his fellow emergency workers stay safe and out of harm's way tonight. It's going to be a long night here. We are praying for everyone affected by this storm. Thank you Linny.

    1. We have been praying specifically for the Emergency/First Responders/Fire Fighters/Police Officers and any others that risk their lives to serve their communities. Praying for your husband as he heads to work. Thank him for us.

  6. Stacey here in Schwenksville, PA (outside of Philly). My husband is in Seattle so I'm home with my two kids alone. Winds are picking up. I just pray we get some sleep and the winds don't get too damaging.

  7. I'm in PA. Not in any danger. But we are getting major winds and rain and power is in and out. I'm watching 6 kids while their parents are in Eastern Europe finishing up an adoption. The parents are set to come home the end of the week. Pray for safety for us here at 'home' and that their travel plans home will not be delayed!

    1. And you my dear, are a hero. We love you. xo And I have a daughter who would love to hang out with you, if your travels should take you through Phoenix {perhaps an overnight}.

    2. It actually looks like I WILL have a stop over in Phoenix on the way home. But sadly it will only be for an hour tops. 🙁 I wish I could stay overnight but I'm thinking that that would put the price of the tickets way up! I'll wave in your direction though. xxx

oh, and p.s. Sandy blew over us last night and besides not having any power, we're all okay! Still crossing our fingers that airports will be working fine by Thursday so the parents can get home!

  8. I'm in Arlington, Virginia and so far the storm hasn't been too bad… Just some rain and a few strong wind gusts. The worst of it is supposed to hit tonight. It's nice to not have to go into work today or tomorrow but I hope the power doesn't go out!

  9. In Southwest PA, about 40 miles north of Piitsburgh. It began raining yesterday but really picked up the pace here in the last two hours. We are under flood and high wind warnings until tomorrow sometime. We are home and safe, truly blessed. We do have a tree that nears our neighbors home and ask that you pray hat it withstands the storm or, if it comes down it does so into our yard where it won't hurt anyone. Our neighbors are precious

  10. My brother (AJ) and his wife (Elaina) live in the Chelsea Village of Manhattan. They've not yet been evacuated… Please pray for their safety. She's newly pregnant. Also, my husband and I are scheduled to fly up to NYC early Friday morning. My husband is running in the marathon there on Sunday. Who knows what will happen between now and then. It may get cancelled. Please pray for wisdom for the people making this decision.
    Blessings,
    Rebecca

  11. Deana in Burke, Virginia. It's not horrible here, lots of rain and wind. Please pray that ours and our neighbors 80 to 100 foot tall trees don't fall on any of our houses. Many trees are already down in the surrounding areas and it's supposed to get a bit worse throughout the night. Thanks so much!!!

  12. Thank you for thinking of us. Our family could really use some prayer right now. Our roof was leaking and my husband climbed up there in the middle of rain/snow/sludge to fix it with rubber roof cement. It looks as though it worked, praise God but please pray that there are no other leaks. Also, I was just in the basement and it is filling up and the furnace is in the deepest part. We are SO blessed and I know God is taking care of us. There are so many around us who are sick…I'm also praying and concerned for them as well, as the medical clinics have closed their doors. Again, I just love you all and will be praying for you as well.

  13. One more… my nephew is special needs and depends on the electricity as well. I'm believing and declaring supernatural Goshens all around God's children right now.

  14. We're in the Philadelphia suburb of Malvern. Nervous, but thankful that so far we still have power and our home remains dry w/ no trees down. Thank you for your prayers.

  15. Praying for my BIL and family in CT. I am from the south so I have no idea what the situation is like up there. Just praying for God's protection for them and everyone else.

  16. Sandy in High Point, NC….We are fine, but in-laws in PA could get hit really hard (near DuBois, PA) and please pray especially for Yvonne and Jon and their children at the RMH in Rochester, NY…Their daughter is Selah and she is still in the hospital after near drowning 11 or so weeks ago…
    Love from NC

  17. Praying for God's hand and blessings be on you all tonight. Sleep well in His care knowing that He is Master of the waves. The winds obey His voice.

  18. I am in Northeast Ohio, so not in the heart of it but still facing inclement weather. Right now we have nasty rain and some pretty strong wind, though the threat of power outages has often been discussed. However, three of my siblings live in Boston with loads of extended family in CT, MA and ME. Hoping and praying everyone stays safe and dry!

  19. I am in Northeast Ohio so we are not in the heart of the storm. Currently we are facing some nasty rain, massive wind and possible power outages. However, I have three siblings in Boston and loads of extended family in MA, CT, and ME. Hoping and praying everyone stays safe and dry.

  20. Praying for all of you!! We are in Nebraska…so y'all are welcome to wait out the storm at my house! Sooo wish it were that easy! :). Please stay safe!!!

  21. I am personally in British Columbia, so we are far from the storms (and way south of where the big earthquake was yesterday). But we have a close relative in Manhattan, and her twin sister in Connecticut. We are praying for their safety. (And I'm also praying that they will know Jesus.)

  22. Praying for all those threatened by Sandy. I like Jami's idea…you can come hunker down at our house…if you don't mind the cold prairies of Saskatchewan! 🙂

  23. Glad to see this post. My father-in-law lives in PA, hopefully he will be fine as well as my brother-in-law and a good friend in Lancaster county PA. Prayers for all the people there for safety and all the policemen and firemen and other workers out there in this storm. Phil and I were talking about this storm. 50 years ago earlier this month was the Columbus day storm in Oregon, where I was living at the time. A child on a school bus when the wind was high and finally the bus driver took us all back to the high school as trees were blowing down and we couldn't get home. my mom and dad came and picked my and my older brother up from the school. Interesting that this big storm comes 50 years after that storm! Back then there weren't weather satellites (1962) like there is now. Take care!

    1. Let me say it this way – I was driving a tractor through the tuition work study program at college in Detroit – and paid for the whole second semester without missing a class! 😉 Yeah – didn't know it could snow that much…!

    2. Aus,
Did you grow up in the Detroit area? I grew up in Buffalo and so I definitely saw snow, but NOTHING compared to the Blizzard of 77. So thankful to be living in Phoenix now.

Loving wearing sandals all year long….I've waited my whole life to warm up…and it's finally my turn. haha.

  24. Prayers worked. Gideon and I are here in the Philadelphia area for his treatments at Shriners and his upcoming surgery. We stay at the Ronald McDonald House in Camden New Jersey so were right in the direct line of the hurricane. Pretty scary. But we are safe. Not sure how bad it is outside yet but God kept our little area of Camden New Jersey safe. Thank you Jesus! It was one scary night.

  25. Linny, and bloggy friends, thanks you so much for the prayer and thoughts, we, in Portland CT (Central CT in the CT river valley) thankfully weathered the storm with a mere 8 hour power outage- compared to 10 days this time last year. Unfortunately, our friends further down the valley did not fare as well, and there are many, many towns 100% without power, whose water supplies have been compromised due to flooding. Please keep them in your prayers, also keep our NYC friends in your prayers, things are MUCH worse in that area,, with several hospitals without power.

  26. We are in WV. We have over 2 ft of heavy, heavy snow. We've been without power for over a week. Many of our family members, we have not been able to reach because of down power and phone lines. (I'm sure they have more snow than us). They hope to have power restored by Thanksgiving. We are so discouraged.
