Jubilee’s Surgery

Wanted to share an update on our Jubilee Promise…
She had surgery last Friday.
The plan was to slit the eyes in the lower part of the white…
Go in behind the eye….
Cut the muscles….
Move them over and reattach them…
in an effort to have her sweet brown eyes no longer cross
nor work so hard to keep themselves from being crossed,
nor wiggle side-to-side…
But when the surgeon actually went in, he found that they
had already done this very surgery in Ch*na.
We had no idea!
Hence, because of the previous surgery the surgeon on Friday
found a ton of scar tissue behind the eyes.
He said that they had to remove so much scar tissue that there is a smaller chance of the surgery working this time around….
not to mention that the recovery would be longer and extremely painful…
{which proved to be true!}
Jubilee has had several surgeries since coming home and has done fantastic post op…
But this time she threw-up for 8 hours after, off and on…
Crying and moaning from the pain…
Saturday she threw up as well…
But today, she is much improved…
and we are so thankful for all your prayers!

  1. So brave of her. I had similar surgeries when I was a baby (1.5 years and 2 years in late 1960's). I have worn glasses since then and cannot fathom eye surgery now. I've been encouraged to have Lasix (or similar) to make my correction less, but have a phobia against that entire idea. I think it must be some sort of memory of the surgeries way back. My mom's favorite story is that the hospital gathered up the laundry from my crib and managed to include my white blankie, and then promptly lost it. Fierce mama of a temporarily blinded baby, reaching out and touching everything to see if it was the right texture and scent, marched someone downstairs and got them to look until they found it. She still has the scrap of blankie that it left.

Jubilee, you are a brave girl! Feel better soon!

  2. Oh, sweet girl. Praying that your eyes heal quickly and with no more pain! My Laura goes in next week for another eye surgery, too, and this one will be more invasive. Can you pray, Jubilee, for Laura, too?

  3. Oh, poor JP! That sounds really rough. I hope you're feeling better now. I am praying that the surgery makes a difference for you–even way more than the doctors could ever think that it would! Keep smiling, sweet girl!

  4. Oh ouch! My oldest daughter had eye surgery a couple years ago, and started having excruciating pain a few days post op. turns out a stitch had popped loose and was poking her every time her eye moved. Hearing the tiny *plink* of the surgeon trying to grab the end with tweezers over and over had me crawling out of my chair.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

  5. rejoicing with you.

  6. Sweet Jubilee! I hope she continues to feel better and even better is to see better!! How fortunate you have been to have such great medical care so close to you!! Loving you my friend!

  7. Oh I hate that – we too have "run into things" that were done prior to our kids being adopted – and other things that should have been done but that were not – all of which we never knew…so sorry for her pain. Prayers that this eases quickly and that in the fullness of time she has a great outcome!

    hugs – aus and co.

  8. Bless her heart. My Riley boy has an eye disease and he's been a trooper through 4 surgeries so far. I didn't know that Jubilee's surgery was for her eyes but that makes sense now because I felt so impressed to pray for her often. Thank you for sharing your sweet treasures with us.

  9. Oh, sweet Jubilee. We are so sorry she had such a rough time. 🙁 We have found out that there is such a thing as Vision therapy that we are going to try before surgery. Who knew?!! Our eye doctor has prescribed someone in town, but it is expensive with out of pocket fees. We are beginning to save for it. Will let you know if it works.

love to you all and hugs to Jubliee

  10. What a surprise. Two of our boys had this surgery in Oct. One has to have it again in 2 weeks. They removed 14mm of floppy muscle!!! Amazing what they can do. It's great that we are able to get these kids the help they need, and that we have the doctors here to do it. Praying Jubilee recovers quickly.
BTW–did she have Liquid lortab???? Of me and my kids who have been sick after surgery–it has been the liquid Lortab everytime!

  11. Sooo glad she is doing better. My son has had many surgeries since coming home; his have been on his feet (club feet) and hip. One time when the surgeon opened up his feed, she found so much scar tissue that the operation took her 2 extra hours just to scrape the scar tissue away from all the muscles and tendons, etc! I've heard that some kids just scar more than others. So sorry that they can't perform the surgery successfully, but very glad she's doing better. 🙂

  12. Glad to hear she is doing better. Her eyes look great! Malia had the same surgery earlier this year and she was upset cause she thought the doctor had taken away her Chinese eyes! lol

  13. We are praying, my husband has had 8 eye surgeries due to an accident where he sliced his eye with a piece of tile and he is blind now in his right eye. I know the post-op is not lovely and quite painful. We will continue to pray for total healing, QUICKLY!
