Bam! It’s Clear…

Recently I had to drive Dw somewhere.  Ninety-nine percent of the time Dw drives, but since his night had been ridiculously short due to some not-fun circumstances and basically exhausted he had agreed to me driving when I volunteered.

Truthfully, Dw doesn’t love riding.  Many of you feel the same way – ‘let me drive any day, I’m a lousy rider’, right?

With morning rush hour traffic in full swing, I knew he must have been extremely tired to let me drive!

Dw and I needed to get to the other side of the city and the HOV lane was open for any car with two or more people in it.

Easing my way on to the freeway, I slowly made my way across the four lanes of traffic and into the HOV lane.

Being honest, Dw doesn’t really enjoy driving in the HOV lane and he’s not exactly crazy about me doing it either.   On the other hand I totally and thoroughly love, love, love it.

There is nothing quite as exhilarating as zipping by bumper-to-bumper traffic in four lanes beside me *knowing* that God is going to part that traffic for me to move over.  He’s done it so many times I have no doubt He’s going to do it again.

Each time I get in the car, I say, “Lord part the traffic right when I need it…” and He does.

Not once has He ‘slept through it’…

Nope!

Not even once!!

Well this particular day as I drove past the bazillion cars heading to or from work, Dw and I were busy talking about some serious matters as our exit sign was spotted in the distance.   About that time, Dw said, “You might want to get over now.”

Since the sign said that it was still four miles till our exit I said, “No, it’s okay.  There’s so many cars that I will end up at nearly a standstill.  The HOV lane will put me where we need to be way faster…and remember, I told you Whitey that anytime I am heading somewhere the Lord always opens the lanes by parting the traffic so that I easily move across to the exit?”

We went back to talking and before long another sign appeared that our exit was getting closer.

I couldn’t help myself…I was pretty giddy that Dw would be able to see, first hand, how the Lord would open up the lanes of nearly bumper-to-bumper traffic when I needed Him too.

I giggle as I type…friends it was bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic…there was no letting up and not one single pause in sight…

Until the exact moment I needed it…

and just like He always does –  BAM!

The cars parted, the lanes are completely clear and I gently eased my way across all the empty lanes and entered with no the exit ramp with no effort at all.

As I did, I was kind of sing-songing one of my favorite scriptures,

“Those who hope in Him will *not* be disappointed.”

As I headed down the ramp bubbling,

“Whitey, did you see that?  Every.single.time. He does it.  Every time!!  The Lord parts the cars and the lanes open up.  Did you see it?   Seriously, did you see it?”

Dw couldn’t help but laugh.

It was so miraculous.

But here’s the point…

Later in the day I was thinking about some things that are serious and truly bigger-than-life situations.  Circumstances that we are asking God to part the waters in…and instantly the Lord whispered,

“Remember how I part the lanes of traffic each time you need it?  Remember Linny?  Just like the traffic clearing,  I’m working behind the scenes in each of these circumstances.  I have not gone to sleep.  I am not too busy.  If I care about the lanes parting for you each time you need it – how could I not care about these things that trouble your hearts?”

So friends,  how about you?

What needs do you have?
What circumstances seem bigger than life?
What trials are you walking through?

Take them to Him.

He cares about the lanes of traffic parting, He cares about your needs.

He can part bumper-to-bumper traffic – He can part the sea for you.

“Those who hope in Him,
will *not* be disappointed.”

    1. Well my sweet friend, the word was for you and many others – "Those who hope in Him will *not* be disappointed." That's the only place to place your hope! Praying this moment that your miracle is on its way!

  1. LOVE this post. I am going to put that scripture up where I can see it often. I admire your faith so much, and am so grateful you are willing to share it with us!!!

    1. Diane,
My eyes filled with tears as I read your comment. I just received news {literally minutes ago} of something that means the mountain the Lord has to move grew a billion fold. The Lord has a plan and although I have no idea what it is for the situation I speak of, I am grateful that He cleared the lanes that day {one more time} so Dw could see it…and to remind me today that He's "working the night shift on our behalf".

  2. i so needed this. and this is the second time, months apart, that the lord gave me the same message when i have been in a really tough spot: I'm working behind the scenes.
