Waiting

Today we have our back veranda door wide open as we work
away at our homeschooling at the kitchen table.
There is a beautiful desert breeze blowing Spring-like air
and the gorgeous Arizona sunshine is pouring in.
I love Spring.
I love flowers
and actually that’s probably just one of more than
 3,287,639 reasons why
I love Arizona so much.
There are flowers.
Year round.
They are everywhere.
From flowering bushes to the delightful smelling buds on the trees.
And this morning, while enjoying the veranda
breezes the Lord reminded me of the verse I memorized when I was
a young girl,

“Though the grass withers
and the flower fades,
my word endures forever.”
Isaiah 40:8
It’s true.
The petals of even the most spectacular flowers will still fade.

Even the most nurtured and watered grasses do wither.
But God’s word?
It never fails.
Not ever.
His word stands forever.
We can count on it.
Personally, I have a promise that the Lord gave
me a long time ago.
It’s not come to pass.
Yet.
But it will.
Yes, it will.
And ya’ know your long awaited promise that you have been
holding onto?
Keep holding.
He’s not forgotten.
He’s not going to forget.
He’s working the night shift on your behalf.
And you are on His mind at this moment.
I’m clinging to His promises, too.
Holding on tightly.
And some days I feel “clingy”
and weak…
but He’s okay with that.
He longs for us to trust Him.
He longs for us to rely completely on Him.
His desire is that we worship Him through the wait.
May the flowers serve to remind all of us that
as breathtaking as the beauty of it is,
His promises are better still –
and He is faithful and He will bring His long-awaited promises to pass.
Because He always keeps His word
and we will worship Him as we wait.

  1. Trusting in his faithfulness today. Trusting in God who keeps his word. Praying that we have the right words to share God's truth this weekend… and that there will be a rich harvest for His Kingdom. Also praying I won't die of hypothermia this weekend. Pretty tough to leave weather in the 50s for SNOW… pray for openness for me to embrace the cold, to see beauty where I normally see UGH and to be completely invisible so the Holy Spirit can shine. Praying I can keep my nerves under control so that I don't get overly chatty. Please help me remember to be a listener first. Thanks Linny for a beautiful post and a reminder that the Lord is ever faithful.

  2. Reminds me of the song "While I'm Waiting" by John Waller – the song that was written for the movie Fireproof. Do you remember it? It says just what you talked about – "While I'm waiting, I will serve You. While I'm waiting, I will worship You." Thanks for the reminder. My wait is for my brother to leave the sinful lifestyle he has chosen and come back to the Lord. God gave me the verses in Psalm 27:13-14 that say,
    I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.
    14 Wait for the Lord;
    be strong and take heart
    and wait for the Lord.

I cling to the "in the land of the living" part – hoping that means both my parents and I will be alive to see him change. He knows the truth in his heart of hearts because he was raised in the same Godly home I was raised in. He's just choosing to ignore that for now. I know God's timing is not our timing, but oh how I would love for that to come about sooner than later! 🙂

  3. Linny thank you for the reminder! It has been 5 years and 4 months since I hugged my precious boy and kissed his handsome face. There are days I am brought to tears the hurting and missing is so intense. Then I look up and know that I know that I know that my great big mountain moving God is holding Brock in the palm of HIS hand and HE will bring us together again when the time is right!

Looking forward to the day I get to hug my boy again!

    Blessings,
    Suzanne
