Pregnant!! – Well Sort of….

At the River Church there are four young women due within two weeks. One of them is one our staff wives, Jill. She and Mark are also sweet friends. A couple of weeks ago she posted on her blog how much she was trying to psyche herself up for the last month of her pregnancy. Jill just doesn’t love being pregnant. In fact she mentioned that just to be fair, not all women feel like her. She then made reference to me and how I had told her recently that if I could I would carry the baby for her and even labor and deliver for her. I absolutely LOVED being pregnant and not all my pregnancies were easy (spent 10+ weeks on complete bedrest with Graham). But I love to waddle (as long as it’s with a baby growing) and I love feeling that little one tucked safely inside! Such a miracle!
I decided to post a comment on her blog. Here’s what I said: I laughed as I read your blog… AND THEN I had this wild idea….since misery loves company (or so they say)…I have always wanted to dress up with a big belly and pretend I am pregnant and go out to dinner with a bunch of “pregnant” friends..lets do it and waddle together for an evening…come on!! We will see who else we can get to do it with us?? I promise I will dress up and we will laugh forever about our “pregnancies” together and the fun we had?? Whatcha think?? =)
She loved the idea and the plan was “born”! (pun intended) So I sent the following invitation to some ladies at the River:

Hey Ladies,
When was the last time you sat around and laughed with some girlfriends? Even if it was just this morning, how about a night of some special outrageous girl-time?

Recently I was talking with my friend Jill about how uncomfortable it was for her being at the end of her pregnancy and to make a long story short I had an idea.

Wouldn’t it be crazy fun to dress up with a giant belly underneath and go out to dinner with all the almost due women? ((Actually I am expecting too – just in a different sort of way!)) Life is short and there seems to never be enough times of reckless abandon!! And can you imagine a whole room full of “pregnant” ladies enjoying dinner together?

So here’s the deal….ALL LADIES (ages 14 and up) ARE WELCOME!! I went through my address book and just put in a few names on this email – I had to start somewhere!! Feel free to invite any ladies you know. I am not excluding anyone – so feel free to invite anyone.

The place: Meet at the River Church
TIME: 6:15pm
DATE: THIS Thursday September 4th, 2008 – two days from now!!
Eating: Probably Tequila’s but I have yet to confirm that…
RULES: To participate you MUST be dressed with a belly (that you keep attached the entire evening – – – pillows work well)….The belly must simulate that you are NINE months pregnant!! (Sorry no exceptions – no matter what your age or hormonal status) If you aren’t “nine” months pregnant you can’t participate!
KIDS?: Sorry, not this time! The only kids welcome are nursing infants and the “babies” in our bellies….daddy gets to do some good ol’ fashion parenting!!
Bring: Bring a camera to capture the fun and bring along a picture of you (if you have ever had a birth baby) when you truly were NINE months pregnant – once upon a time. We want our sisters to know they are not alone, many have forged ahead of them!
LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Email with the names of those coming…so we can give Tequila’s an idea of how many to “expect”. =)
Also: If you have any questions, email me.

You won’t want to miss the night – it’s going to be “bulging” with laughter!!

And yes, I sent this email to some of you my dearest and sweetest friends who live around the country….wishing that you were part of the fun!!! Of course if you feel like hopping on a plane, come on, you can stay at my house!

Nineteen women showed up and Durango will never be the same again!! By the way, Seth and Maria (also staff pastors and precious friends) recently had twin boys. So I decided, as long as we are dressing up – why should they have all the fun? I decided to be pregnant with triplets!!

Since this post-menopausal mama can’t really be pregnant and was literally ‘playing’ dress-up I begged Emma to come with me. She is going to look so sweet pregnant one day when she is married!! And I was thinking about it, Mary was pregnant with Baby Jesus when she was only around 12, so if we were in that society, she most likely, at 15, would already have kids! Oh my!
Some of us met at the church. There’s Chelsea on the far left….

Laura below…….she loved being pregnant too and couldn’t wait to dress-up!Meghan and Jinny below – Jinny longs to be married and have kids and she couldn’t wait to dress-up….

Carie in her leaopard bathrobe – she had us laughing with some “tips on being pregnant”..

The REAL pregos – (Left to Right Meghan – she and Benjie are on our staff…Benjie is our worship pastor and together they lead our prayer ministry. She is due with a baby girl and they have an almost 2 year old named Lily.

Next is Sommer – she was due with a boy and had him 12 hours after this picture was taken! She and her husband have two daughters at home…..

Next is Erin – after 2 devastating losses she has carried Eliana safely and she and her husband minister full time to the students at Ft. Lewis college here in Durango! We can’t wait to meet Eliana! Yippee Jesus!!

Far right is Miss Jill – due on the 14th with baby Jack. They have a son and daughter and she and her husband are our children’s pastors. I just love this picture of Sommer – what a blast was had by all!!!
