A Divine Appointment

I asked for prayer last night as I was finishing up my post. I was going to do another ride-a-long in my Chaplaincy Program with our local Police Station. What a sweet, amazing, divine appointment!

The officer that was chosen for me during roll call to ride-a-long with I had not met before. After roll call we walked out to his patrol car. I immediately thanked him for serving our city as a public servant. I told him that I wanted to support the police force in anyway I could and that was why I was becoming a Chaplain. I also told him that our son serves our great country in the Special Forc*s and that he is not allowed to talk to anyone about what he has done. (As a chaplain one of my joys is to listen to anything they want to talk about.)

This young officer said, “I know what that’s like.” He went on to tell me that he had been in the EXACT same Special Forc*s unit as our son Tyler for 11 years!! My jaw dropped. What are the odds, BUT God?

Before long he told me how he was medically discharged and had earned a Purple Heart. His buddy and close friend had been killed when he earned that Purple Heart, sitting right beside him. AND the day of this horrific wounding and losing his close friend? Today, February 6th!

He talked openly and freely. It was amazing and I am so humbled that I had the privilege of hearing his tragic story and the aftermath of his trauma.

I could not get over this divine appointment from the Lord. How awesome God is! How faithful He is in the timing and assignment of this special young man.

If you are reading this post, would you please pray for J today? Just three years after he was wounded and not expected to live, serving our country? Would you also please pray for his friend’s family as they grieve the loss of their precious son, brother, friend? And then lastly, pray for our troops, they are doing what they do because they love our country and they love our freedom. May God bless America.

  1. amazing. i read a quote once that was something like “i never knew coincidence until i knew God”… it’s awesome how God puts people in certain places at certain times… some call it coincidence but We know it’s God!

And Linny I gotta say that the last post of Rach’s was sooooooooo rigged and biased….You just got to know that I will be slithering outta MY crawl space for a rebuttal.

  4. Linny,

How did you get started as a police Chaplain? Sounds like a very needed service!!!

    Grace and Peace in Christ

  9. I love stories like this one. So orchestrated by God! Two of my sons serve in the US Armed Forces, and I would be honored to pray for one of our country’s finest.

  10. May His comfort be with J today and his buddy family on this day.
We remember in with a prayer of thanksgiving Linn as you were present for him last night.

  11. God never ceases to amaze me. Thanks so much for sharing…I love your family…Im 28 and have 5 children hoping to catch up to you someday!!! God bless you, you are an inspiration to me.!!!

  12. Linn, I am so blessed that the armed forces are a piece of your heart. Although my husband is not currently depl*yed it means so much to know that when he is there are people like you who lift him up in prayer. We will continue to pray for Ty as he is away. What an amazing opportunity to listen to one of our soldiers who has served our country well. Blessings, Lisa C.

  13. Wow!! By the way, I had a very vivid dream last night about you. Your family was in China to meet your newest member, and my family was there, too, picking up our sn daughter. I introduced myself to you as “Esther’s mom” and you knew exactly who I was. The funny thing about this dream is that my husband and I have no plans to have any more kids…maybe God has a different idea.

  14. Hi there, I’ve been praying for you all since I first read of your fire; we are in northern CO. and I heard about it online. Anyway, I so understand the aftermath of what you are living with~having gone through a major earthquake in our home state of Ca. and also having worked in a bank that was held up 3 times, I was there. I will pray for peace that passes understanding for you and the kids. Your posts make me wish we were younger and could adopt(if hubby was in the kingdom). I love today’s post-there are no circumstances-just God’s timing and He is using you mightily. I will continue to uphold you all-am so thankful for your rental house in two weeks and for your testimony. God’s richest blessing to you.

  17. Oh goodness—-GOD, He is so amazing. His timing is so perfect. What joy that you were able to minister to that sweet man. How his heart must be breaking. And the family, I cannot imagine. There are no words. Praying that God would send THE COMFORTER!
Thank you for being so obedient to the call of God—even in the midst of ALL you are going through. You are one of those ‘good and faithful servants’.
Praying you get into your rental really soon—I bet you are longing to spread out a little.

PS I came across an incredible (and heartbreaking) video on Ugandan orphans—just about ripped my heart right out of my body. I thought of your precious children. I posted it on my blog today. It was one of those life-changing moments for me when I wanted it. Oh God in heaven!

  18. Wow! Amazing story … you have the best God stories! We will certainly continue to pray for Tyler and for this family, as well as all the others who so nobly and selflessly serve our country.

    All the best,
    Nicole A. in OH
