Sharing the Burdens

With the death toll rising and the horrific pictures all over the news and media….how can we do anything but stop and pray for those affected by the tornadoes?
The tornado that wreaked havoc in the area when we were pastoring in Virginia was devastating to our hearts.   I wrote here about that tornado and how I narrowly escaped death.
One of the most terrifying experiences I have ever lived to tell about.

There is no way that I am comparing our tornado to what happened yesterday….I am merely remarking that our lives were profoundly affected by the tornado we experienced and I simply cannot imagine what the folks in the southeast portion of the United States are feeling……
major devastation everywhere.
How does one even begin to rebuild?
And all the loss of life?
Completely unfathomable.
May the God of all peace and comfort minister and give grace for each moment
and may we share the burdens, both in prayer and action.

  1. I didn't know about the tornado in the South East of US until I read your post this morning. I have prayed for them. I am wondering what action do I need to take?

I went to your link where you experienced the tornado when you were living in Amelia… what made me pondering was that our Lord gave you an impression to go to the cleaners place… why didn't He just speak about the tornado to you instead of an impression… because He spoke to you about when to turn off the road to take shelter at your friend's home… sometimes He just leaves impressions and sometimes He just speaks… I'm wondering why He doesn't just speak in the first place? 🙂

  2. Thank you so much for your prayers. I live in AL but in Montgomery now. My family is in North AL where there is so much damage. Thankfully they are all safe just without power. I have been asking the Lord how to pray for these people and all I keep hearing is for Him to get the glory through it all. Keep praying…it's a long road to recovery.

  3. Linny, thank you so much for this post. I live in East TN and while the area where I live was spared, the surrounding areas have been hit hard. The damage that we are seeing pales in comparision to some of the images I have seen on tv, but nothing like this has every happened here before. The "old folks" always said that the surrounding mountains would protect us but sadly they were wrong.
I am not sure what Susan was asking exactly, but if anyone is interested in making a donation to the victims in my area, there is a facebook page that can give them information including websites where monetary donations can be make. The facebook page is "Camp Creek Disaster Relief" or they can make donations online at http://www.campcreekdisasterrelief.com
Thank you all for your prayers. Again Linny, I am so touched by your post. Thank you!

  4. I live in AL where one of the largest tornado's came through on Wednesday. It was a mile wide and did a lot of damage. As of Thursday the death count in AL was 200. We heard the tornado pass by us and we are one of the blessed ones that had no damage. Please pray for my fellow friends and neighbors as we help each other through this time. Thank you.

  5. Thanks for praying for the victims. I am praying people through this, too. My parents were hit by the tornado that his eastern NC almost two weeks ago. Their home is very damaged, their business was literally blown away, my dad's truck was destroyed…but they survived, and I praise God for that! I am very concerned about their loss of income, though, but I know that God will make a way. We've been there, helping clean up, throw away, sort, etc. It's amazing what can happen in a matter of 15 seconds.

  6. I have been following your blog for about a month now. We live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, one of the hardest hit areas, although our area was spared. My husband and I watched on live TV as the tornado went right over our daughter's apartment complex. The weatherman was actually calling out the name of her street. Thank God she and her roommates were not hurt, but she has many student friends that were killed. Her graduation, scheduled for a week from Sat, has been cancelled. The scale of the damage is unbelievable. Thanks for your prayers. We need all we can get.

  7. It was a very scary thing. My house was not effected by the tornado. On either side of my house one town over, either way was MAJOR damage. You always hear of things happening OTHER places, but when you see what has happened right next to you, it's a totally different thing. It's heart breaking to see people wandering the streets because they have no place to go. People have lost their lives and homes and work. One of the buildings (a firestation) that my boyfriend's parents were SUPPOSED to be at was completely destroyed. By the grace of God only, were they not there. Instead she was in the hospital in downtown birmingham with what they thought were heart problems, that turned out to be esophageal spasms. Sounds crazy, but if they were in that building instead of the hospital safe and sound, the would not be with us anymore. People here can't drink the water in places, it's contaminated. We found pieces of peoples homes and things in our yard 2 hours away from tuscaloosa where all the damage was. a friend of mine found a picture of a beautiful little boy in her yard. It makes you wonder if those people whose things you have found are ok. Are they as upset about losing what we have found as we are about finding it? It seems like you are violating someone's memories. You have them, and do not know how to get them back to their owners. Prayers are needed for Alabama. There are thousands of people effected by this. Bottles, water, hand sanitizer, ziplock bags, clothes, and many other things are needed. Please be in prayer!
