While They Are Sleeping….

We need a little help while they are sleeping…

In scripture there is a parable that Jesus told.  We often refer to it as the “story of the Good Samaritan”.  It goes like this…

“A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side. 32 So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion. 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii[a] and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’ 36 Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him,“You go, and do likewise.”  Luke 10: 25-37

There’s some points that stand out about this good Samaritan:

1. He had compassion.

2.  He stopped.

3.  He set the beaten man on what would appear to be the only animal he had so that the man would be carefully carried to help.

4.  We have to notice that the Samaritan was already busy. He was on a journey and merely passing by. He didn’t probably need one more thing to do.  Yet he stopped.

He saw the need and he met it!!!!

Interestingly enough, the religious leaders, both a priest and a Levite, crossed to the other side.  They didn’t want to take their time. They didn’t want to share their resources.  They didn’t want to get involved.

And at this moment, on the other side of the world, a little Gem named Opio needs our help.  He’s been really sick and Emma has been having tests run and seeking out specialists.  It’s finally been determined that this sweet little bundle of smiles needs a feeding peg.  Uganda does not have the medical ability to put the peg in.  Opio will have to go to Kenya.  Emma has talked to the surgeon in Kenya.

Opio and Emma

He actually needs three surgeries to do it all.

The surgeon told Emma that it will cost about $5,000 to do all three.

And friends, this is where the rubber hits the road.

Opio has a legitimate need to save his life.

Would you be that good Samaritan who doesn’t pass by, but instead helps pay for the surgery?

And just in case you want to read more – here’s the link to Emma’s blog post about Opio.

*All General Donations received at this time will be used to help pay for Opio.

Can we raise the money while Emma and Josh are asleep over there?  [Dwight and Liberty are there as well.] It would lighten their load so much!! Will you please help Opio and will you pray for him?  You can tell how precious he is from his picture!!

  1. oh.my.goodness. the Lord used this story so much today in my own struggles about being busy & a bit overwhelmed, and yet God has called us to minister as a family to 2 orphans this summer. I was needing an attitude adjustment & a bit of inspiration & I listened to a Christine Caine podcast where she saw the human trafficking going on in Greece. she was shocked as she had no idea. . . but she was busy. the Lord spoke to her and asked her if she was going to cross to the other side. anyway A21 was born. I repeated the story to my husband sharing what God had ministered to me through it just 30 minutes ago. . . then I saw your blog post! I donated and am praying God meets the need for the entire amount for sweet little Opio.

    1. Thank you so much Ellie!! Your story encouraged my heart! God is ALWAYS At work around us!! Always. He is just so faithful. And I pray that God uses your time serving the 2 you minister to this summer to stretch, encourage, strengthen and challenge your faith. May God be glorified and may they both find homes because of your effort!! xo

  2. Linny, do you know if PayPal receives a portion of the funds donated in order to use their service? If not, I’ll happily donate online. But if they collect a portion, can I mail you a check instead so 100% of the money would go to precious Opio?

    1. Yes they do take a percentage!! It would be wonderful if you mailed it so 100% goes to Opio!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!
