Flying Home…

This week I am flying back home to Buffalo, NY to participate in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in honor and memory of my dad. I will be walking with my brother Neil (and his precious family) in an effort to raise money toward research for this dreadful disease.

When my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s the doctors said that he was incredibly healthy (except for the Alzheimer’s). And for the next five years we watched his mind deteriorate yet he remained healthy. He didn’t know me for the last 4 years and it was extremely painful on so many levels.

I know many of you have also been affected by Alzheimer’s Disease. It is such a painful disease to watch someone you love walk through. My prayers are with you and my heart goes out to you.

Lastly, here’s how you can help: 1. If you are near to Western New York, please join our team! We would love you to come walk with us. 2. If you would like to donate to sponsor me, I would be so grateful. Any gift would be so appreciated. 3. If you would like to donate in honor or memory of someone you love I will be wearing a card around my neck and will place their name on that card – just tell me! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I miss my dad so much and sing to Ruby regularly the song he made up for her before Alzheimer’s stole him away.

(The link is attached to donate or join our team and walk with us. If you are coming to walk with me, please private message me.)

  1. Hi Linny,
As I read you post today I was thinking about the book I’m reading to my homeschool co-op this week. It’s called The Remember Balloons by Jesse Oliveros. It a children’s book that explains memory loss in the elderly in such a loving way. I thought you might like it. God bless you and your brother as you walk in honor of your dad.

    1. WOW. I Had not heard of that book. I will have to look into it. And thank you for the kind words. I had asked my brother what he thought of me flying back to walk with him and he responded enthusiastically, “That would be phenomenal!” I can’t wait to spend the weekend with he and his wife (who is a true sister to me) and his family.
