Maybe you’re feeling rather weak today.
I know the feeling.
Of course, we all know “weak” can mean physically.
It can also mean emotionally or spiritually.
There is a powerful song that our church worship team
does every so often. I think it just might be
my most favorite worship song these days.
It’s called Cornerstone.
Dw and Graham have been in the Philadelphia area –
Dw speaking at a Mission’s Conference and in two morning services. I took the kids to the early morning service
yesterday since we are all up any way.
Ruby is always most perky at the first service.
In fact when she woke yesterday morning, I told her
we were heading to church and she just might see her friend, Pastor Luke.
She grinned through the finger she was sucking.
How she loves that man!
With the kids in their classes, Savannah, Ruby and
I headed into the service.
As our worship pastor, Jeff, began the second worship song
I was almost giddy – it was Cornerstone…my favorite.
I stood worshipping, meditating on the words and
turned to where Ruby in her wheelchair beside me…
and as I turned there was the most beautiful sight
I may have seen in a really long time.
Little Miss Ruby was sucking her left fore finger and
there to my surprise –
Ruby had her right hand completely opened.
Her hand was raised up.
All on her own.
I was in shock!
It was the first time she has ever done this on her own.
We occasionally lift her hand and move it back and forth
for a few seconds, but most of the time she prefers
her arm pressed closely against herself and her hand fisted.
But not yesterday.
Her palm was completely open.
Her hand was lifted straight up.
Intentionally holding it perfectly still.
And what words were being sung?
“Weak made strong in the Savior’s love…
Through the storm He is Lord,
Lord of all”
Oh sweet Ruby girl, you know the storms better than most.
Left alone to die in a garden in the steamy African sun, seemingly
no hope…
But God.
Almighty God.
The maker of heaven and earth.
He was watching.
In His powerful mercy and love God brought just
the right villager, who would discover
our precious African princess in that garden and lift her
out of the painful, horrific circumstances and
take her to where, unbeknownst to that man,
God would be bringing a team of missionaries
led by Dw and Emma.
Emma would find her and bring her to daddy
knowing that God desperately loved her and had
a good plan for her…
Even then, medical professionals would declare:
“Her brain is too destroyed by the Hydrocephalus
and brain infections she will never do anything.
Don’t waste your time.”
But God said, “Watch this….”
Here Miss Ruby is, five brain surgeries later…
living in Phoenix, Arizona making
unbelievable strides in every way and bringing us
joy beyond what we deserve…..
My eyes instantly welled with tears as I saw Ruby
worshipping and I grabbed Savannah to turn to Ruby –
she watched in amazement.
I well with tears as I type.
My favorite worship song is the very first one
Ruby Grace
lifted her hand in worship for!
I confess, I believe with all my heart
{and no one could ever convince me
otherwise} that Almighty God communes
with our Ruby every single day. She
giggles sometimes, for ‘no reason’ and
I have to think that the Lord just whispered
something to her that completely amused
her. There are other times, I know He’s
whispering to her. I just know it. Why
wouldn’t He? He loves her beyond words.
So if you are feeling weak in any way today,
watch “Cornerstone” and let the Lord minister
to your soul, just like He used it to minister to Ruby
yesterday.
No matter what you are going through,
He wants to be your Cornerstone. He, alone,
will give you strength, peace and courage.
The lyrics:
“Cornerstone”
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus blood and righteousness
I dare not trust the sweetest frame
But wholly trust in Jesus name
Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
When Darkness seems to hide His face
I rest on His unchanging grace
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil
My anchor holds within the veil
Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
He is Lord
Lord of all
Christ alone
Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
Christ alone; cornerstone
Weak made strong; in the Savior’s love
Through the storm, He is Lord
Lord of all
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless stand before the throne.
Totally needed to hear that, first of all. Second of all, way to go Ruby. She is truly a miracle. Love her and you for posting this today!
Praise Jesus! Your little Ruby surely brightens my day with that smile! Cornerstone is my favorite song right now too! Looking forward to seeing Hillsong United in November. Keep on praisin', Ruby! You are God's miracle.
Beautiful!
Jesus promised us a Comfortor and tonight you were the hands and feet of Jesus. I was sitting here crying, believing lies and then clicked on your blog. Christ alone!
Thank you.
Thank you for that, Linny! I have been feeling under spiritual attack lately, and this was just what I needed. <3
After an extremely challenging day, this post and song has brought tears to my eyes, joy to my heart, and my focus on Jesus right where it needs to be. Way to go Ruby!! Hugs and love to you…

I got goose bumps as I read this today. So powerful. So amazing. Just like our God.
Oh my. This gave me God bumps. Sweet and precious Ruby. Such an awesome example of how we are supposed to be! xooxoxoxooxox
Beautiful post!!!!! We rejoice with you as our great God performs miracle after miracle in precious Ruby's life! Her beautiful smile just warms my heart! Wish I could squeeze her sweet little body in my arms . . . maybe someday. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by my blog! HUGS!
A beautiful, beautiful story! I love it, and I love that you got to see it! Praising Jesus – (and they said she'd never do anything)…Praise God!
Thanks for sharing Linny!
Love,
Julie
Rejoicing with you at how good He truly is…what a priceless moment! Thank you, Jesus!
This is one of my favorite songs! I catch myself humming it as I go through the day. It has helped me through a lot of things. Love that Ruby was praising the Lord during this song!
Wow, I needed this, thank you. Having just returned from China I am depleted, emotionally, physically and spiritually!
Being jet lagged and trying to get all the appointment in before returning to work is tough. I do not mean to be complaining as I do love these girls and I know this is what God has called me to do….I'm just tired!
Thank you for letting me 'vent' I don't want to say to much of FB or the blog as there are those that would say, I told you so and that is not the God we serve.
Anyway, from a tired mom that needed this reminder. . . thank you.
BTW, I love how God is showing up in Miss Ruby's healing step by step! Thank you for allowing us to be apart of her miracle!
Oh, I have goosebumps! Love that song too. Now it's going to be running in my head all day long, and that's a very good thing! 🙂 Worship and praise Him Ruby – we'll do it along with you! 🙂
Beautiful! A gift from God. Worship often moves me to tears these days. So many songs have a personal meaning for me and my life. Some songs ministered to me during a time of hurt and pain, etc. This past Sunday we were singing "How Great Thou Art" and I was moved to tears because in the back of the church sat 3 young families with little ones. The parents in these families were children 15 plus years ago that we bussed in to church for our kid's program. What a great God who lives and moves and works over the years to bring back to church those who have struggled through life and are now searching for meaning. Seeds planted are never wasted.
Wonderful! Halleluyah! The Lord is so good!
how beautiful! got tears in my eyes 🙂
Linny, this isn't related to today's post, but I thought you and your readers would love to see all the beautiful pictures of families on this site!
