The “Vacation” Continues

Well just when we thought the struggles were all behind us……

Yesterday morning when we were taking off I told Dw that I could smell gas. He thought it was just me. Last night when we pulled in the KOA the lady said to Dw, “Wow, sure can smell gas!” She then said, “I’d get it checked out if I were you.”

So first thing this AM we went to the mechanics. They found a lose spark plug or something. We were on the road in about an hour. We got right on 70 heading East and about 5 miles up the road there was a huge explosion sound that about sent me over the edge. Dw pulled it over as fast as he could. I was trying to get out from under my blanket where I was sitting at the little dining table with Elijah, Elizabeth and Isaiah. I was thinking it just might burst into flames and I could not get out up fast enough to yank the kids out of their car seats.

Dw couldn’t turn it over for anything. So we had to call the same mechanic who we had just paid to fix the spark plug to come back and tow it for us. We road in it as he towed it. I took some fun pictures, but am unable to download them at the moment, because my computer won’t work, so I’m doing this from Graham’s.

It has now been about 3-1/2 hours and they still can’t find what’s wrong with it. We are wondering what we should do. Vacation days are ticking away. We are in the middle of nowhere, 400 miles from home. We could drive our Expedition, but it’s 400 miles away, and how to get there?

Really, I was unable to contain it anymore. I just got over sitting and bawling my eyes out. What do grown up old people do when they don’t know what to do and God seems silent? We wish Dw’s dad was still alive. He would give us an idea.

We are vascillating….just go home and forget the vacation. Go back to Denver (2 hours) and try to rent a van. Pray for us to have wisdom. We feel like ninnies for buying an RV that was 26 years old. What were we thinkin??

  1. Oh My! I'm so sorry this is happening! I wish I lived near where you were…. I would come rescue your family! I'm praying for you! Next time book a FL vacation and you're welcome to stay with us!

  2. Linny I'm so sorry this is happening. Can you rent a motorhome in Denver? We did that one year and had a blast. It would be so sad if you had to forget your vacation.

Praying for wisdom for you and DW. Hugs..

  3. You were thinking about making precious memories and I vote these are memories worthy of a record book!!! I am praying that you'll be able to see the humor and fun in your current situations. I'm also praying that you'll get that thing fixed and on your way!

  4. Oh boy, I'm praying for some wonderful idea to come to you. Something always happens it seems(with you) just in the nick of time.Really praying for one of your YIPPEE Jesus moments. I'm sure it will happen. Just take it slow and stay safe. Praying !!!!

  5. Oh I am SO very sorry! 🙁 I wish I could just come get you guys….anywhere near Tulsa?? UGH I just HATE this for you guys.

But I understand. Every large vacation we ever planned fell through. We don't do them anymore, don't even plan them. Now, we go somewhere within a few hours of the house and that's as far as we go. We just do LITTLE vacations. We're PRAYING we get to Branson in December.

Keep us posted, and if you guys NEED anything, let the bloggy world know so we can help!

  6. I know you don't see it now, but think of it as memories in the making. I mean you will look back when the little ones are grown and say "You remember when we rode in the RV as it was being towed?" Sorry to hear it is this complicated to make memories. =)

  7. Oh Linny…

My husband is the director of a disaster relief ministry in the state of Oklahoma. His group went down deep in Louisiana to help with repairs and an addition on a church that was damaged in Katrina/Rita. After about the third trip down there, the pastor mentions to John that he has a bus that he would love to donate to the ministry. He had bought the bus, but couldn't keep anyone that was qualified to drive it. It had been sitting there for a little bit. Come to find out, that "little bit" was since before the two hurricanes. That explained that the dirt on the outside wasn't just from sitting. He tried – unsuccessfully – to bring the thing home THREE TIMES!!! The third trip, with having to rent a vehicle to get him home once again, he decided to sell it to the mechanic who was trying to help him get it on the road. And a humorous aside to the last time renting a vehicle, the rental office was inside the airport terminal. He almost walked into the terminal carrying a gas can and jumper cables!! Fortunately he thought about this before he actually made it inside the building.

Hope this helps lighten the mood a little. Praying the remainder of your trip is uneventful!

  8. I am sooo… sorry to hear about your troubles.

Do you have 2 friends at home, that could drive your Expedition to you (with 1 driving a car that they can then drive home). I know that I would do that for a friend in your circumstance.

Hoping and praying that you find a way to continue on in your journey. So sorry that the RV hasn't turned out as good as you had hoped.

  9. Linny –

You make even frustrating times sound like an adventure. I hope you get to continue your trip. If you have nowhere to go, we have three empty bedrooms in Castle Rock.

  10. You were thinkin' sweet memories for your family, that's what! And these, my friend, are memories.

Thanking God you're in a Yukon, bound for our house!!!

Just think of the stories you'll tell on this blog in the future! These have Memorial Box, Wordless Wednesday, and Thankful Thursday written all over them!

Satan, haven't you learned? You can't keep a good family down!!!

  11. Hubby (who used to live in Co. Springs) says tow the MH and sell for parts, get back to Denver or the closest place you can rent a CRUISEAMERICA motorhome. A large motorhome max occ. 7 would run approx. 1071 from denver for 9 days (don't think mileage is included.)

  12. Awww, I'm so sorry to hear what's going on. I will pray for wisdom for you to know what to do. Your blog has increased my faith by more than I can even explain and I've seen God do some amazing things in my life (things that I may not have noticed because you have taught me to have faith and to notice every little thing that God is doing and to NEVER pass anything off as chance or coincidence). All that to say that I know our God is bigger and better than a 26 year old RV and I know that he can work in this situation. Whether that means helping the mechanic figure out exactly what is wrong, or giving you a very clear impression of whatever else you need to do.

  13. Praying for you!! I think you should find a way to go on the vacation!! The family has been through so much and sounds like you all need one now!!

Praising God that the Rv didn't blow up on you and you are all safe and sound.

  14. Oh Linny I am sooooo sorry that everything seems to be falling apart and not going right. Just remember that even though HE seems silent, if you look behind you there is only one set of footprints because he is carrying you right now. Always remember HE loves you. God bless all of you.

    Love and blessings, Kristy

  15. Oh… hang in there. It will all work out – maybe you are meant to be stuck where you are for a reason. And the best part of traveling by RV… you never know where you might end up. 😉

  16. You were thinking that it would be a great story for a Memorial Monday!!! God will pull through and show you just what to do. No worries, this will be another wonderful family memory no matter how you feel about it at this moment. I will be praying that God makes a way where there is no way:O) Lots of love to you and yours:O) Jenn

  17. Hang in there! You saw a deal and went for it thinking it would be a great way to make memories with your sweet family. Well…you are making memories, just not the ones you thought. HUGS and hope you figure something out soon.
