As Our Trip Draws to a Close

Well!??! We are in Colorado Springs where we are staying with our sweet friends, Dave and Jo. Dw and Dave are on their way to turn in the rental and see if “the cottage” will start and make it back to their house. The plan is to then load up and head for home. If it doesn’t start, well, not exactly sure what we’ll do. There are a few options, so we’ll just have to keep praying and see.

Last night as we ate dinner with Jo’s family we laughed till our sides ached. What were we thinkin? Really. Seriously. Driving a 26 year old RV across the country with no mechanical know-how whatsoever?? What were we thinkin? Dave had told Dw in the midst of all the breakdowns the RV had…..”What you need to do Dw is go to a locals restaurant in Limon. Find a guy with an orange (hunters) hat. Offer him $50 to take the RV off your hands.”
Elijah & Emmy gave each other foot massages alot of the trip….

As the psycho high winds banged the rental car around for the last two days we could not imagine having been in the RV. Then there was that other thing I failed to mention. Ya’ know, the little known yet interesting fact that the RV has no heat. Should be a chilly drive back home if indeed it runs.

We have had some other great laughs too. Like Emma complaining about her luggage.
I mean, come on girlfriend – quit yer complaining, will ya!!???

When the house burned down we lost all our luggage. We haven’t bought any since, and it seemed like ‘no big deal’. After all, we were going to just be in the RV, so we carried our stuff out in plastic garbage bags. Imagine the thrill for a 16 year old carrying her “luggage” into each hotel. She finally said part way into the trip, “Hey can we buy some new garbage bags?” It just struck Dw and I funny. We said, “Emma are you complaining?” We laughed and laughed. She laughed too. Dw kept referring to us as “RV trash.”

Other Luggage of Ours

Sweet hotel in Kearney, Nebraska
a whole suite for $119.00 – not bad!

Yesterday we stopped to see one of the Pony Express stations.
It was amazingly cool.

And then there were the Antique Shopping stops. Yes, even our kids dig antiques. Near my Mom-in-love’s home is one of our favorite antique stores of all time….check it out…
This is how big it is…and it is loaded with antiques…and I found a sweet Memorial Box here….Dw & Emmy hammin’ it up….Inside….not bad, huh? An antique lover could go crazy here…
Then there was this other little place…
actually found two Memorial Boxes here….

– And yes, it seems that fall is in the air and I am feeling a Memorial Box giveaway comin’ on…so watch for details on Memorial Box Monday….coming this Monday…..

  1. When I began my adoption process through foster care, I thought it was wierd that one of the things on the list to have for the child was a suitcase. It was explained to us that most of the kids in foster care end up caring thier things from foster house to foster house in a garbage bag. It struck me that we take so much for granted even a suitcase.

  2. Just tell me where the keys are, and I'll drive your car to the Springs for you after work! But, praying the RV starts too! Love you guys, and glad to have you almost home!

  3. Those antique stores…wow. And to think more memorial boxes. That is so neat to have another memorial box giveway!!

It sure sounds like you had a wonderful holiday and I'm so happy for you guys. That's awesome!!

Have a safe trip home. I hope the "cottage" starts and you can at least get it home. It would make a wonderful "tree house" for the little ones!! Hugs and love

  4. Linny,

Thank you for the giggles today! i needed them! Still busily unpacking boxes, homeschooling and trying to mail our dossier to Ch*na, and trying not to rub my eyes…pink eye! Gross!
My Sophia and i have been scouring the antique stores all over our area for a memorial box with no luck. My poor DH thinks we're crazy, but, we are ever hopeful that we will come across the "perfect" one.
    Have a blessed weekend!

  5. I'm going to have to go back and read some more posts- sorry I missed them.

I love your luggage and yes it is time to buy some new garbage bags!! Good idea Emma!

That Dave is one funny guy. I think if we got Dave, Dw and Jim together we'd be rolling on the floor!!

I love adorable antique places- we usually are the ones driving by- hubby is not big on old stuff. I love the exteriors of those places as much as the interiors! So much character! They look like they have a story to tell!!

I am eager to find out if the RV (who has now been stripped of it name the cottage) will start! You need to save a cute name like the cottage for something that works!

  6. Looks like an absolutely wonderful trip. The luggage is hysterical, just how a sixteen year old wants to walk around, too funny.I could get lost in that antique store for days, now that's right up my alley.Drive save!

  7. I've been following your blog for quite awhile, and just love the sweet spirit that comes through in your words.
Thanks for "taking us along" with you on your trip. It's been a blessing and a blast! I've prayed, cried, hoped, cheered and laughed with you all along the way. The luggage is just too much! 😀
So many wonderful memories for your family.
Prayers continue for the last stretch of your journey!

  8. I do hope you bought Emma some new garbage bags, or did you just stop at Wal*art and get some of those little white bags? :^)
Tell her to be glad they matched.

  9. Sometimes I literally LOL, and this was one of those posts! Just picturing your poor teenaged girl carrying around those gargbage bags and asking if you could buy new ones! Too funny! I'm glad she and everyone else had a good spirit about it. : ) And the antique shopping looks like FUN!!

  10. Oh my gosh…I am cracking up over the plastic bag suitcases!! We used to have family jokes about our paper suitcases (you know…back in the day, when all grocery bags were paper). I can just imagine the sight of all of you carrying your plastic bags into the hotels along the way. hee

  11. Hi Linny,
Will be praying that your RV gets you home until you can find that guy with the orange hat to turn it over to!! lol
Maybe the Lord has a much better one in mind yet! will be praying for that too!
Glad you all had a good time, and love your luggage!! Hey, necessity is the mother of invention. You do what ya gotta do, and one of these days because of your non complaining spirit I bet you will have amazing luggage one day!! How is your home coming along??
    Have a great weekend,
    Blessings, Nellie
