The Rest of the Story

Remember a few months back we invited you to come to beautiful Colorado for a free facial…..
And then we invited you to come for free manicures…..remember?? Well it seems that we have extended our services……we are now offering your one service stop, let me explain……

So do you remember about a month ago I did a whole post on our first day of homeschooling? Yeah, well, here’s the rest of the story (kind of like Paul Harvey would do).
After posting my first homeschooling day for this 22nd year of homeschooling I was chuckling to myself. What a day! Sometimes I think that those who don’t homeschool, envision that we “have it all together” and that our children sit (with halos neatly positioned) doing all their work neatly, quietly, kindly speaking to each other, never complaining, hands stay to themselves, blah, blah, blah….yeah, like it’s always just perfect and smooth sailing. Uh-huh, riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

When we were buying school supplies this year Emma thought it would be fun for Isaiah to have a pair of scissors. We were shopping at 10:30pm at night and I just said, “I’m so tired, I don’t care, just throw it in the cart.” Infact Emma’s sweet boyfriend was with us and when he heard that ‘I am so tired, just throw it in the cart’ comment he said, “Okay, well then let’s head to the electronic aisle.” That made me laugh. Sure Josh, take advantage of a tired ol’ homeschoolin’ mama.

So the next day was the first day and just in case you missed all the fun of our first day, I wrote about it here. But anyway, after posting the post, later in the day I was following Elizabeth down the hall and thought, “Weird! What’s up with the bald patch on her head?” So I looked closer. I said outloud to no one in particular, “Gracious!! Elizabeth has this patch…I wonder what that’s about?”

Only to find out that that sweet pair of scissors that Emma had thought Isaiah needed? Yeah, that pair had found their way to his sweet little fingers where he decided that both he and Elizabeth needed a good haircut. Yup! Upon closer examination I found that he had indeed hacked to pieces cut her whole head of beautiful – albeit-ever-so-slowly growing Ugandan hair!! UGH!

I tried taking pictures but its hard to tell, except for the bald patch, but trust me,

she has one unique hairdo at the moment…

And he cut his hair too…right in front – of course he did!!

So now that we have gone completely full-service…..

any takers??
And that was “the rest of the story” for my first day homeschooling…

  1. Too funny, abosolutely too funny!! Reminds me of days gone by when all of our kids did the same thing at one time or other. Thanks for the memories. Hugs..

    check your e-mail later today.

  2. Hahahah—oh I am totally dying laughing. Never a dull moment, friend? I KNOW you wouldn't have it any other way 🙂

I have to tell you—they are soooooo adorable!

  3. Why is it that giving yourself a homemade haircut is some rite of passage for kids??? Let me correct that- my son never did that, but my daughter (now 5) has done it more times than I can count! I have had at least 2 hairdressers (hired to cover it up) tell me that maybe I should put my scissors out of her reach. I do!! She is just some stealth mode spiderwoman that still finds them and makes me look like I don't watch my children! 🙂 Her latest was only a couple months ago and it was so short (right in front) that I refused to take her in to get it fixed. 😉 It still looks like she's got some Farrah Fawcett feathers going on on that one side, but oh well! 😉

Poor Elizabeth! She probably had no idea what her big brother was up to!

  4. That is so funny. I guess I don't feel so bad that my little 4yr old from China decided she needed a haircut the other day also. She was eating lunch and I came in to use the computer and noticed black hair all over the keyboard. I thought "is she losing her hair?" Only to investigate behind the keyboard and under her school papers there was a HUGE chunk of black hair! She is now sporting a cute bob with some spiky bangs LOL. I was growing it out for my sons wedding but I guess that wasn't meant to be. What is it with kids, scissors and hair? LOL

  5. lol…sounds like our first experience with scissors. I handed both my 4 and 5 year old scissors, saying, "now you are both big enough to know that you do not cut hair with those. Right?" Then I walked out of the room for 2 minutes to return to a large lock of my daughters very long hair lying on the ground. OK …no more scissors until they are a little older. A month later, they beg for the scissors, promising they will not cut any hair. I again walk out of the room…stupid…stupid…stupid, only to return to blood dripping down my 5 year olds face and shirt. My 4 year old was apparently holding the scissors at his ear so he could hear the sound they made and yep…she cut his ear. After I put the scissors away, she proudly said, "I am old enough to use scissors now, I didn't cut anybody's hair."
    I guess ears don't count.

  6. Oh my – LOL – I think I will pass of the sweet full-service!
I would love to see Jessica, so I need to talk to Steve about the possibility of coming to your side of the world.
Thank you for letting me know!

  7. Well, I don't think that is a deal that I can refuse. I too, am a busy homeschooling mom and since we recently moved I haven't found a new salon. That is fantastic that I can have my hair and my nails and a facial done all at one stop! That just may be worth the drive!

  8. well, thanks sooooo much for the invitation to your, um, "spa". While the setting is glorious(nothing beats beautiful Colorado!!) and the attendants ARE adorable(and plentiful), I think I will have to pass. MY Isaiah and yours seem to run in a strange path of similarities. lol Mine did this about 3 weeks ago, when we were packing for a trip. His daddy left scissors on the front seat of the van. Isaiah was supposed to be "helping" clean the outside of the van. His hair was long blonde and straight. Shiny and pretty. . . He looked like an adorable little surfer dude and my only blue eyed child. . . well, he cut a huge chunk out of the front/top. There was no way to fix it without losing length(well we could have but he would have had a mullet)so, to get it to blend, I had to buzz him all over with the 1/2 inch guard. Which because of his fine, blonde hair, made him look practically BALD! And did I mention this was on the way out the door?? He had to have a 5 minute assessment. 15 minute hair cut. 5 minute shower, change of clothes and be sent BACK to the car(sans scissors) grr. I thought 5 was big enough for scissors too. I am, so sorry about Elizabeths beautiful hair. 🙁 thanks for sharing the rest of the story. 🙂

  9. Oh YEA! Our sweet Audrey decided to do her own hair after I mentioned that we needed to have the hack job I performed fixed! She used my sewing scissors that I left for "just a minute" while I checked the laundry, 8 feet away! She informed me "We no need to go to da hair pace, I do it mywelf". "Do whaaa, oh noooooo!"I responded! I thought about shaving her head, as it was down to the scalp but she didn't do the bangs so I thought a professional might be able to save it. They had a good chuckle and looked absolutely horrified. I had to remind them it is hair and it will grow! They were more upset than I was. At least until someone at church asked if she was sick. They thought she was having chemo and her hair was falling out! Oh MY! She now has a cute pixie cut and we love it! She has only been called a boy once! Sheri

  10. My eldest (now seven, but six at the time) cut his calick (sp?) because he was tired of it not laying down. At least we didn't have to wet it down for a while!!!
    love,
    Audrey

  11. Too funny! They all do it at least once. When I was doing home daycare a girl cut her bangs(or a chunk out of them!). What made it worse was I didn't even notice but her mother DID the second she walked in the door!!!

  12. You mean my image of the "perfect" Saunders is flawed?! NOOO! I'll never read your blog the same way again says the person who once cut off her own ponytail.

  13. Let's admit it we all have done the same thing to ourselves and/or siblings at one point in time right? I don't need a hair cut but maybe I should send Brett since i have a hard time getting him to the barber shop hee hee

  14. Oh my!! I am always hesitant to let my kids know where the scissors are located. So far, only one (of my 6) has cut his own hair (twice). That being said, I just had one of my 4 yr olds cut something out for school this week. I "reminded" her that she could only touch scissors if mommy handed them to her and only cut the paper I gave her. Let's see if that works:-) I'm praying it did. Luckily all my boys have crew cuts and my other dd is older than her so she's the only one I'd have to watch out for. Yikes!

  15. But even with that bald spot … I am just sitting her looking at her GORGEOUS black curls!!! Oooohhhh!!! Maybe someday … maybe someday …

And as for Isaiah, well I have no advice. I have never had a hair cutter, BUT I've had little scientists, and right now have some little people who think it is truly hilarious to put fake spiders and snakes in Mommy's bed! Yep, I used to worry about my heart but not anymore. It is working quite well!

Love your KEEPIN IT REAL homeshcooling posts. For this newbie HSer, I need to keep it real! LOL!

  16. Finally got another TTHURSDAY post up, but I am having a hard time being thankful today … sigh. Still I remembered one of your posts where you taught us about how we are to be grateful no matter what. Thanks Linny for sharing that a few months ago or maybe longer. God lay that post on my heart today and used it to speak to me!

  17. Oh gee- ya know I'd love to switch over to your salon BUT I've been with my girl for so long, she'd feel really bad if I switched! I'll be sure to share this with others that are looking for a new hairstylist!

    wink! wink!

  18. My daugher cut her hair to the scalp in a triangle right in front where the bangs would have been 2 weeks before her 3rd birthday and 4 weeks before her 3 year pictures. She wants me to braid her hair, but it is still not long enough. Thankfully we have not had any facials, yet..
