Memorial Box Monday – The Doctor’s Appointment

Memorial Box Monday is one of the most important days in my week. It serves as a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness in our lives.

This past week, as most of you know, I went to see a specialist in another state.
Although I was really looking forward to meeting with him, I was also dreading it. You know, this visit wasn’t gonna’ be one of those fun doctor visits that you get when you’re pregant and finally get to hear the heartbeat. There are just days in life that in a moment of a doctor’s words, your life changes.

Anyway, we drove the day before and spent some time playing in the hotel pool and shopping and doing fun stuff as a family. The next day we got to the hospital where his office was and went in to the receptionist. We told her my name. She looked. Then she asked how to spell it. She looked some more. Then she said, “You don’t have an appointment scheduled today……”

Now let me back up just a bit. I am thankful that God speaks to me. He speaks regularly and the day before He had whispered that there was going to be a problem with my appointment. I thought about calling and confirming it, but felt I shouldn’t.

So when she said, “You don’t have an appointment scheduled, but there is one scheduled for you for July 28th”, I didn’t panic. I knew the Lord had warned me the day before and I knew that He still had my back, even if that meant we had to turn around and drive home.

We did explain that that had been my first appointment but that Dr. G had talked to my doctor and it was scheduled for the 11th at 3:30pm. She said, “Well he’s not even in today.” Oh boy. It really did look like we were gonna’ turn around and drive home. Still I had peace.

We did explain that we had come from out of state and she said, “I’m going to go in the back and see what they say.” So she went to see.

About 10 minutes later she reappeared and said that he was on call and yet would still see me. So we sat and waited. When we were finally put in the exam room, his assistant came in. She was a sweet young Filipino woman. We told her that our daughter-in-love was also Filipino.

His sweet assistant went on to say, “It must really be your day, because the doctor was at the hospital where he is on call and he was not supposed to be here, but he stopped by to sign some papers and that’s when you came, he is never here when he is on call! ” We told her that that was God working behind the scenes on our behalf. She shook her head excitedly – I think she almost believed it had to be God to!

Anyway, in my Memorial Box I will put his card. It will always serve to remind me that God whispers warnings so we don’t panic, and that He moves doctors to sign papers on days when they are never supposed to be in so that we can be seen. He is truly my faithful best friend!

And so what did the doctor say? That will be another post, Lord willing, in the next few days. I am one who has to process not-so-fun stuff before I can share. Thank you to all who have been praying {please don’t stop}. You are a blessing in my life, and I don’t say that lightly.

So what’s your story? How has God shown His faithfulness in your life? Please do share….link below…I have been loving reading all the Memorial Box Monday posts….they have encouraged my heart greatly!

  1. God's got your back! He is so awesome!

I felt him at my meeting, too. It just came over me and I knew what ever date would be fine (doesn't mean I didn't still want our hoped for dates but I knew it would be fine and everything was going to work out)

Praying for what was said at your Dr appt.

  2. Linny….
Oh praise God that you got in! Praise him that he warned you as well. I just love his voice!
I am praying and will continue to!

  3. You have been heavy on my heart and I am praying for you specifically and all your family members. You have changed my faith over the last 18 months in unbelievable ways. Maybe one day I too will start blogging. God is using you in just amazing ways and I know he is working on your behalf in amazing ways as well.

  4. Anyone that doesn't like Mondays obviously hasn't heard of Memorial Box Mondays, because Mondays would move much closer to the top of the list of "favorite days."

So glad God had prepared you. How awesome is He? 🙂

Praying for you, sweet friend. 🙂

  5. Dearest Linny, I am so sorry that you have 'not so fun' stuff to share, I am praying that everything will be alright… like what you shared in your Memorial Box Monday story, YHWH still has your back through this, He knows about it all… all we need to do is to keep our eyes on Him and trust Him (sometimes not easy, hey, like Peter walking on water and looking at the waves, but in the end, Yahushua is always there, instantly to help us if we call out to Him).

I am posting something to you today, which I hope you will enjoy 🙂 I have been meaning to post it yesterday, but it was our national holiday and the post office was closed. It will probably take a week or two to arrive to you. 🙂

Will pray for you whenever I think of you.

p.s. about the little whispers of warnings from Him to prepare us… I had a unsettling dream some time ago, and it seems to be kind of a preparation of what I'm going through right now. Please pray that He will guide me with wisdom and show me which way to go… thanks 🙂

  6. I will be praying for you which I have been. It's amazing the things that God shows us in our everyday lives. Sometimes it's unexpected things that are just happy. Like having a cooking party at my house and the demonstrator adds some outside orders to my party, making my sales for party higher. Therefore I get 2 more items than expected!! How nice of her to do that for me. :0) Hugs!

  7. Linny, I have been praying and praying … and I am not the only one in a small town in E. TN. I have a young friend who also follows your blog and is praying for you. God will give you the strength to get through this horrible time in your life. That is what I am praying for you.

When I had cancer and chemo people would say they would pray for me. I just politely asked them to pray for strength. Yes, I was given the strength to endure. I knew that He would not let me down. At a very low point I asked Him to take me. His answer was a resounding "NO". Do I dare admit that after that I asked my mother (God rest her soul) to come and get me. Of course her Master had already said no and she would not go against Him.

Through Jesus all things work out according to plan. I know that he is not finished with you and is working on your behalf! Keep the smile, even if you have to force it, and no one will guess your trials.

  8. i love it. i love His simple, yet so profound, encouragement always. He just told you that you would have a problem with your appointment, but really He told you SO MUCH MORE. that He is there. always. in all the details. loving you, caring for you, guiding you through.

  9. Yes — praying for you and your dear husband and children. God's plan for you is perfect. I love when He gives us info that helps us to be calm and peaceful in a situation that might otherwise fluster or frustrate us.
    In His Grip,

  10. Wow Linny I strive to be more like you. Never wrecking the car maybe swirving but then ALWAYS remembering that God has your back and this is HIS path and you are along for his ride. I am trying to be more like that but with only 3 kids(my friend I truly think you are a saint) I am struggling. I will continue to pray for you. Have a wonderful fabulous Tuesday!!

  11. Oh Linny, I just love how God's presence is with you every step of this journey. If He is faithful in these little details, just think how faithful He will be in with the big things.

I will continue to pray healing and peace over you.

    Much Love,

  12. Praying for you and our family. Praying for strength, peace and wisdom for you, your husband and children and the doctors.

Thank you for blessing us with your blog.

  13. I am praying for you and thinking of you often. Thank you for sharing this Memorial Box moment. It shows me His amazing care even in the midst of the tough stuff!

  14. Linny, you continue to be in my prayers. You are such an inspiration to countless souls, only heaven will tell how many.

I soooo understand taking a few days to process. I am like that many times following Ellie's appointments, have even told people, "We'll talk about it later…" because I just couldn't talk yet.

We must be truly sisters….our heart for children, for adoption, for orphans…and our families favorite places….Chick Filet and Cracker Barrell.

We'll be taking a LONG road trip soon, from GA to CT to see our Caleb….it's been two months, too long for his Mama….

    Love you, my dear sister,
