Thank you Almighty God for hearing our prayers –

It did NOT pass!!

The vote today at high noon was 61 – 38.

They needed 2/3 to pass.

It was sooo close.

Your calls, emails, tweets made the difference!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

Here is the email I just received from HSLDA:

Senate Rejects Ratification of UN Disabilities Treaty

Dear HSLDA Members and Friends,

Due to your calls, emails, and office visits, the Senate minority
stood strong and ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of
Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) was rejected by the U.S. Senate a
short time ago.

The CRPD, which would take away American sovereignty and threaten
parental rights, needed two-thirds of the Senate in order to pass.
Although it gained a majority of votes, it failed on a vote of 61-38.
This is a great victory for parental rights, homeschool freedom, and
children with special needs.

The U.S. Senate rejected a treaty which
would have allowed UN bureaucrats to decide what is in the “best
interests” of children with disabilities, instead leaving those
decisions with parents and caregivers, which is what existing U.S. law
already requires. Visit here to
find out why HSLDA opposed this treaty.

We encourage you to visit our site later today to
find out how your senators voted, and please send them an email of
thanks {this information will be posted in a few hours, but we wanted
to let you know this good news right now}.

Yet despite this victory, the battle is not over. This treaty and
other dangerous UN treaties can come up at any time. We must stay
informed and be ready at any moment to take action again. Without a
Parental Rights Amendment to the U.S. Constitution which would
supersede these treaties, we are susceptible to these constant attacks
against our rights as Americans and the right the raise our children
how we see fit. You can find out more about the Parental Rights
Amendment here.

Thank you again to all of you who took action against this treaty and
special thanks to those of you in the Congressional Action Program
(CAP) who came out to Washington, D.C. to lobby senators against the
CRPD.

 Sincerely,

J. Michael Smith
HSLDA President

Rejoice with us!
Faithful God.  He heard our prayers and answered.

BUT
We must continue to pray {fast} and be very vigilant.

  1. Praise the Lord! Thank you SO much Linny for posting this – I had no idea about this but was able to alert our homeschool group and call my senators after getting your posting. I just went and joined the email mailing list of HSLDA to stay better informed. Thank you again for always bringing such important topics across our paths out here in bloggy land!

  2. Praise the Lord!! So thankful today. And thank you to all the "good men" who DID SOMETHING! 🙂

    1. Yes, it was the prayers and action of God's people!! But we cannot let up. They have said that they will bring it to a vote again after the 1st of the year. Of course they will. Because they have an agenda. We must be prayerful and keep our calls going!

  3. Maybe we need to now also begin petitioning our involvement in the UN at all. The US needs to leave the UN and then we need to kick their headquarters out of our country!

  4. Thanks for the update. I was about ready to check FOX news but got me first. Thankful measure didn't pass. I prayed alot about that last night and today. Yes, we need to keep vigilant in our land and keep praying!

  5. Hi there, I have been following your blog for some time now. I used to work in international adoption and have a strong passion for helping orphans. I became a stay at home mom and left that line of work but still feel very much called too it. I now have two babies, one of which has fairly significant special needs. I am so confused by this legislature after reading this:
    http://bestbuddiesblog.wordpress.com/2012/12/05/senate-fails-to-lead-on-un-convention-on-rights-of-persons-with-disabilities/
which states that this measure would NOT affect parental rights. Can you explain?

  6. Hi there, I have followed your blog for some time now. I used to work in international adoption for many years. I left the work to become a stay at home mom but still feel very called to it. I now am the mom to two kiddos, one of which has fairly significant special needs, so I am very interested in this legislature, but also very confused after I read this:

It clearly states there that this legislature would NOT affect parental rights. Can you help me to understand? Thanks so much.

    1. am not equipped to adequately explain. There is a link in the HSLDA page that tells you the loopholes that will be left to interpretation, potentially threatening parental rights. You will have to read the link there. I am moving in 2 days our family of 11. Please read the HSLDA link. And if you have been following my blog for some time, then you know I do not have such a sense of urgency to pray and act on anything…this is that serious.
