It’s Time for a Change

So I consider myself a fairly healthy eater.  I love eating vegetables and salads.  I’m not much of a meat either, which depending on who you’re talking could be a good thing.

But I have a dark secret.

I am addicted to chocolate and sugar.  Like seriously addicted.  I know it really is an addiction because chocolate is hidden around the house.  It could be funny, except I know for as much as I eat salads, the chocolate/side side of things more than cancels out the good stuff that the vegetables and salad do.  And I looked in the mirror the other day and realized that I’m not getting any younger, ya’ know?

So my friend, Shelby, recently challenged me to do Whole30 with her.   {No grains, no sugar, no processed food of any kind. You don’t have to join anything to do it.  Their website has tons of ideas!!}

Then, without me even saying I would, she added me to a private Whole30 Group she has going.

I was like, “WHAT??   And as much as I wanted to protest, I love her to pieces and I knew that I needed to do this.  Like twenty years ago now!

To be completely fair, when Graham was a baby I did the “no sugar” thing.  It was hard at first, but then I got used to it.  I couldn’t believe how much better I felt either.  Like seriously, it was a night and day difference.

Of course, my eldest son, one of my kids, whose name shall remain anonymous, has harassed me regularly since those five measly no-sugar months many years ago.   He belly-aches like it was FIVE decades.  It was FIVE months.  1-2-3-4-5….m-o-n-t-h-s!

But with the big bossman in Africa and because Shelby added me to the group, I’m going for it.

Anyone else want to join me?

You can be part of a group with me too!  Either friend me on Facebook or if we are friends, just tell me you want to be added.

Let’s see what 30 days will do!!  Maybe it will be a forever change.

Below was lunch today.  It was yummy.  I’m not gonna’ lie, I was thinking about the chocolate in my closet as I finished eating, but I have managed to ignore the screams I hear coming from the messy abyss!!

  1. Oh girlie! I make coconut oil chocolate….I keep it in the freezer for chocolate emergencies! (Coconut oil, cocoa, stevia, peanut butter, chia seeds, vanilla all melted together and set in mini muffin cups)…..I know its not exactly Whole 30 but its low carb which is what I do.

  2. I just finished the Whole 30 at the end of September and it was AMAZING! So many good things both physically, mentally and spiritually. I certainly learned a lot about food (can’t afford to eat all organic so did the best I could with that one) but mostly learned about why I am eating & when I want to eat when I am not really hungry. Cleared up some on going issues I have had with thyroid symptoms (I will be treated for life) and although I can’t be medication free outside of a miraculous healing, I felt tremendous relief. Keep going. Don’t give up–not even once. It’s a powerful experience. There is a group here in Phoenix called Revelation Wellness that does a tandem ministry called “Clean Hearting” that plays on these ideals for eating. I am VERY interested in doing that program sometime!

    1. Oh Emily!! That’s so fun that you just did it. I cannot believe that last night {only day 2 on it} I was not exhausted by night. I am wondering if I can just keep going and take it “30” at a time! Literally. Writing you an email now! xo

  3. You can do it! I’m a huge huge fan of Whole30. I did my first one this past June and have stuck relatively close to the Whole 30 rules ever since. When I eat something processed/non-compliant now it’s crazy how much of a difference I notice in the way I feel. The weight loss certainly was a nice perk as well! I’ve had several close friends and family start a Whole30 since they’ve seen my results and they all rave about it as well. Lots of preparation of snacks and meals ahead of time has been most helpful!

    Also, hello! Longtime blog reader. The mention of Whole30 was enough to de-lurk me from the woodwork to sing its praises 🙂

    1. It made me laugh to know that the Whole30 plan drove you out of lurkdom!! So nice to meet you Jenny! I actually think I may try to do Whole30 each month…meaning, I say, “I’m going to do 30 more”…and then “I’m going to do 30 more”…so that I don’t feel like a quitter. I can’t believe *already* how much more energy I have!! But oh how I long for a teeny tiny piece of chocolate {truth be known, it might be a teeny-tiny piece but pre-Whole30 it’s never just one! I’m addicted, for real! So that’s why I can’t cheat, even a speck.} So glad to hear of your success!!!
