The Secret

While in Uganda, several times Dw texted me and said, “Hurry home babe!! Let’s get this adventure underway!”  In case you missed it, here’s the post where I share what God has been up to through one man’s courageous story and how our lives will never, ever be the same!!

So now that I’m home we are hitting the ground running.  Okay, so maybe with the jet lag I’m actually hitting the ground with a gigantic thud but the excitement is indisputable – we, as a family, are completely full steam ahead!

So some may say, “Oh I wish that was me! I wish my husband wanted to do something radical. I’m pretty sure my husband isn’t into any adventure! I wish he would just be willing to do foster care or adopt or anything ……”

Well friends, I get that.  I really do.  When Dw and I married having 5 children was Dw’s plan.  Fourteen kids later there is one thing that is certain:  God moves and changes hearts in ways we can’t even begin to imagine!

So what is the secret of hearts being changed?

One word:

Fasting.

Now before you dismiss this please hear me out.  Friends, God moves when we fast like nothing we could have ever dreamed or imagined.

There have been more than several times over the years that my boss man has said, “Uh, yeah.  I’d say we’re done.”  Or he’s said, “Umm, no way to that idea (that didn’t involve the orphan)!”   About that time I start to fast and pray.  I don’t beg.  I don’t try to finagle.  I don’t try to guilt him into anything.  God just loves to moves when we apply “the silent strategy” of fasting.

So in that vein, recently I read another powerful book. It’s clear cut and it’s all about fasting.  It was written many years ago and is chock full of scripture and the biblically sound.  It unlocks the key behind seeing God move in the most miraculous way.  Gordon Lindsay is the author and it’s called:  Prayer and Fasting:  The Master Key to the Impossible .

Sometimes we want the “easy fix”.  And sometimes it’s not about the easy.  It’s about the enduring and praying and wanting something so bad that you are willing to do anything to have it come to pass.  It’s been that way with fasting.  I can attest to the fact that God moves in powerful ways when we deny ourselves food. Over and over and over He has opened the door to the impossible!

It’s kind of like a secret weapon.  The strategy of which is unmatched by anything I’ve ever seen.  He loves to move the mountains but sometimes I think it feels that He’s wondering just how serious we are.  Cause no doubt, fasting is serious work.  It’s serious because we have to give up something we love – like eating!!  And trust me, I love to eat!

So here I am, 38 years into our marriage with 14 treasures and I can boldly, firmly and passionately declare that we would not be be where we are today without fasting over the years.  There’s just no way.  Prayer and fasting is key.  Get the book.  Read it.  Be challenged.  Fast.  See what God does!
