My Graduation from the Police Academy

About 2 months ago I completed my training and officially became a Chaplain for our Police Department. There are four chaplains now. This volunteer position is part of the regular police force and we are given many privileges that I would not have thought possible. It also enables me to minister to those in our law enforcement field in our community as well as the support staff. I am on call 2 weeks of each month, and should there ever be a catastrophic event, the chaplains would respond immediately. This summer I will even participate in SWAT training, which I am really excited about. (And yes, I do have a chaplain uniform that I wear when I go on ride-a-longs or calls.) It is a huge privilege to me to be able to serve these men and women who daily sacrifice their safety for our community – they are true heroes!

Part of the on-going requirement to be a chaplain for the Police Department in our city is to complete the Citizen’s Police Academy. A 10 week course, its purpose is to raise community awareness as to what the men and women in law enforcement in our community do on a day-to-day basis. It is one of the most interesting classes I have ever taken. This past week our class graduated and there was a small ceremony which family could attend.

I was asked to give the invocation, which was a huge honor. There were 23 people in our class. After we went, as a family, and celebrated at a local restaurant. The Police Chief giving me my certificate of completion… Dw thought it only fitting that I have my picture taken after with our Police Chief….

Headin’ out to celebrate…but the only large table that would accomodate 9 had a bit of a wait….and it was late…..so the little ones got a bit restless….
Big brother loves baby brother immensely…..

While waiting, the music was a-playing….and the groovin’ started up….Oh yeah, Trust me, this gal can move and groove……. And this little guy loved watching little sister and brother groove…..

  7. What a beautiful woman you are Linn. Congratulations on your graduation to Chaplin. I have respect for what your doing. My husband worked in law enforcement for the last 20 yrs. He just retired in December. He was one of..no he was the best officer I ever saw out there. I know there are more great officers, hes just the greatest one I ever personally knew. He treated every person he came in contact with with great repect and dignity. He was professional, yet had a great sense of humor and at the end of the day had reason to hold his head high. We do not give these men and women enough credit for what they do on a daily basis. I know they signed up for the task, its their job. However being married to someone in that profession gives me deeper appreciation for all of the Good Officers that are still out there making it safe to be in our homes at night. And I have equal respect for all of the husbands and wives who are at home praying for these loved ones to come home safely. Being there to talk to them when the day was a tough one, and sticking it out with them for the duration. It is not easy sometimes. That is why im sure you will be a blessing to many of these men and women.
