Yippee Jesus for A God Idea – Includes You, My Bloggy Friends

This morning we loaded up the kids. lunch and a bunch of snacks (yes sugar included) and headed out to the land where our home is being built. I had wanted to dig thru the dumpster and take out 2x4s that we could use to burn in our wood stove this winter, instead of throwing them in a landfill. Dw bought me some really sweet pink flowered gloves with leather palms – what a good guy!

I had climbed in the dumpster (amazingly I was alone and could pray and think). Moral of the story: Need some time alone, climb in a dumpster!
I was thinking about the building process. I have been very weepy this week with Cindy’s going home to be with the Lord. Once grieving about Cindy it seemed like my brain moved into grieving to a deeper level the loss of our beloved little log home to the fire. So I have been crying at the drop of a hat. (By the way, is that a dumb saying or what? Who “drops a hat” and cries…..anyway, you get the idea!)

While in the dumpster I was thinking about how I wanted to have some friends come over and write scritpure verses on the studs of the walls before the drywall goes in. That thought moved to how I wish I could have a party and invite all of you, my sweet bloggy friends, to our home being built so that YOU could write on the studs lots and lots of Bible verses and/or prayers. I mean, many of you sent quilt squares for our bedroom quilt (which is absolutely gorgeous)……and knowing you all did that on your own for me is unbelievable!!

Many of you have prayed for us diligently since you came by A Place Called Simplicity. Many of you sent things after the fire and so many of you have left such precious comments….comments that have often made us cry – we feel so loved and yes, we really, truly consider you our friends!!

Then all of a sudden the idea came out of nowhere! It was such a wonderful idea I knew it had to be God! Why not ask you if you would like to handwrite Bible verse(s) and/or a prayer and I will put it in the walls before they drywall? How amazingly cool is that idea?? Totally God!!

We would then be able to have our new home be filled with bloggy love? I giggle at the thought!
Now here’s the deal – if you live in the United States your verse(s) and/or prayer must be handwritten and sent to:

The River Church

860 Plymouth Drive

Durango, CO 81301

Attn: Linny S.

I know there are a bunch of you that live outside the United States – places like: Germany, Canada, Japan, England, the Netherlands, Romania, China, Singapore, Spain, the Phillipines, Uganda, Norway just to name a few…. YOU are the only ones who don’t have to send yours via snail mail (unless you are dying to)…but can simply email your Bible verse(s) and/or prayers to: APlaceCalledSimplicity@yahoo.com

The rest of you who live in America, you have gotta’ snail mail it cause I just absolutely LOVE handwritten stuff……..if you want to include your family picture or just a picture of you…please, please, please do!

We will read them all before we place them in our walls. I think we will probably staple them inside or pin them….but either way, behind our dry wall we will have bloggy love, verses and prayers!! It’s gonna’ be awesome!!

The only other hitch is that the drywallers are supposed to start in exactly 9 days…so you gotta’ jump on it right away!! So get busy and drop it in the mail…..

Whatcha think? Are you game? Yippee Jesus – I can’t wait!!

  1. Is it just me? Your CO cowgirl looks more like a bandit, only 1/2 of the picture shows, just down to her glasses..
Anyway, will get right on it and give that PO a boost in mail…know what you mean about getting mail. I just loved getting all the envelopes from all over the US and actually the world (Australia) when I was collecting your patches.

  2. That is an AWESOME idea! I wish I could actually come write on your wall though but this will be fun.

I saw on a blog a few years ago where someone covered the studs of their home in verses and I have always wanted to do the same thing.

I also want to hide something really cool in our wall when we build our house so someone can find it someday and wonder why it's there.

I will get busy on this.

  3. Of course I'm in! What a great idea!
    God- you so totally rock!
Thank you for giving Linny that idea…to stuff her new home with prayers and love from the body of Christ from around the world!

  4. Linny,
What a fabulous idea! Wow, to have the very walls of your house filled with scripture and prayers from people who love you and pray for you. Awesome idea. Look for a note from me. I relish the idea of sending something handwritten through snail mail. Letter writing has become a lost art.

    Lot's of hugs!

  5. just one dumb blonde question from me???? the wood that you are saving to burn for winter… is it treated with anything??? I mean if you burn it will it be toxic??

  6. Hi Linny, I looked up the phrase, "at the drop of a hat". It means you'd do something immediately, without hesitation, or instantly or without delay. Example: "We were ready to pack our bags and go on vacation at the drop of a hat." This phrase probably alludes to signaling the start of a race or contest by dropping a hat. (info found online)
I thought you might find this interesting. Also, I'll be sending you a scripture to place in your new walls.

  7. LINNY!!! What an AWESOME idea…totally a God-thing! 🙂 Can you imagine "The" Power that is going to be in the walls of your home!? WOW! The thought just gives me the best kind of goosebumps! I think I just may tear down a wall so I can do the same thing!! j/k!…but I may 'borrow' the idea when we finish our lower level…the 'foundation' of our home! Yep, think I will!! 🙂

DEFINITELY… I'm on board! I think your mail carrier better carry and extra bag, cuz I'm pretty sure he's gonna need it!

    Love and Hugs,

  8. First, I LOVE the picture of you in the dumpster! Second, what a great, creative and unique idea. Things like that only can come from God.
I would love to be a part of that, even though I haven't been following your blog that long. Not sure if I can make the deadline, but I will certainly try.

Thanks for sharing all your creative ideas and letting us be a part of your new home.

  9. What a wonderful idea! I will get one out in the mail tomorrow.

Please post some pics of your house so far. I just added some to our blog of our renovation project. (I went private, but now I am back…)

    Hugs~

  10. Girl, you think up the craziest and COOLEST things! 🙂 Your poor mailman…you're gonna have to bake him cookies, or something! 🙂

    Love you!!!!

  11. I love this! We wrote scriptures on the walls of our house when we moved in, before we painted. Then, when my daughter moved into her "big girl room", we painted it in stripes. After we lined out the stripes we wrote a verse of protection in each stripe before we painted. I love it! I hope I can get mine in the mail to you in time!

  12. I sent mine out this morning, from Kelly in Hopkins, MI

I forgot to include a picture. 🙂 My face is a little bruised to a run in with a tree right now anyways 🙂

  13. Put mine in the mail yesterday. Hope it makes it from Delaware in time 🙂 Friends of ours also wrote on the frame of their new home…I can't wait to do that with ours!!
