Joys from Uganda

Wifi has been spotty, iffy and everything in between this International Voice of the Orphan October 2017 GO Team trip, so writing a blogpost (until this moment) has been impossible!!  But suffice it to say, it feels oh-so-good to be back in this land we love with a group of precious ladies serving The Gems of The Gem Foundation!

This team of women have dug right in and spent time ministering to, playing with, feeding and loving on the Gems.  They’ve served the Gem staff with an especially delightful treat (more on that next).   They’ve done projects that were very much needed and worked stinkin’ hard!  And we’re not done yet! Tomorrow will be a sweet adventure with the Gems that do not get to go out much! We can’t wait!

The other day part of the team was able to go to see the land that The Gem Foundation has purchased for the (soon!) future home of The Gem Village.  (Three of the team are missing from this pic.)  It was an incredible time as we walked the land and heard some of the plans for the future.  FullSizeRender 3FullSizeRender 5

We even got to enjoy some Jackfruit that had been picked off Gem Village trees as well as some Passion Fruit.  Most of the team had never tasted either before and it was so fun to share it with them!jackfruit-1514527-639x852

Jackfruit grows on trees and most become the size of watermelons!  So crazy to see the enormous jackfruit hanging on trees! The yummy sweet treat inside kinda’ tastes like chicken, kidding of course; it seems to me to be a cross between green grape, banana and pineapple.  Delightfully de-lish!

Passion fruit is another wonderful sweet treat!

The farm of the Gem Village is already producing crops that are helping to feed the Gems and they are selling some of their  harvest as well!

We came across some beautiful little watermelons beginning to grow! FullSizeRender 4

The team was thrilled to see the beginning stages of the Gem land – and one day, Lord willing, will see the dream come to complete fruition!!  The Lord continues to show His favor and it is an amazing blessing to watch!

Nite nite from Uganda!
