Feeding the Orphan From Where You Are

Here I sit, typing from my front porch.  The view of the Rockies in front of me, one of the neighbors horses neighing to my side, two beautiful yellow birds bickering in the cedar tree near me and the sound of the irrigation ditch pushing water from the river to the farms behind us.
I am so abundantly blessed.  So are you.  Parts of your life probably look different from mine.  Some of you live in high rises in big cities, some live on farms, some in the “burbs”, and some live in faraway exotic countries.
 But I am guessing that if you are stopping by our Place Called Simplicity you are partially here because you have a heart for the orphan.   You couldn’t be here for long if you didn’t.  {Ya’ think that’s why some people have dropped off as ‘followers’?  haha.  Oh well.}
I had the privilege of hanging out with my very dear friend this week.  She’s the one who I talked to about Elliot when we were in crisis.  She is such a treasure and she happened to be in town this week.  We sat on my porch sipping iced coffee and we talked and laughed and even giggled a bit.
She is a professional and she has long said this, “Linny, if women don’t get their junk straightened out in their life by the time they are 50 – they get really weird.  But if they do, it seems like something happens. Like all of a sudden they see life straight and they get so intentional in what they do.  They have a cause that drives them!”
Now, you guys know that we have long been passionate for the orphan {adopting internationally 25 years ago when adoption was not what it is today}.  But I have to say, my friend is right.
I cannot think about much else than the orphan – all 163 million of them, the 850 million who walked about yesterday {and today and tomorrow} without a thing to eat, the poor, the widow without a home for her children.
I am almost crazy with feeling that I cannot do enough.
I know many of you feel the same way.
So when Dw went to Africa this time our prayer was very specific.  Lead us Lord to the right connections to accomplish the dreams you have placed in our hearts.
And He has done just that.
Amazingly.
Supernaturally.
Without a hesitation.
Why?
Because He longs for us to care for the orphan, the widow, the poor.
He longs for us to be His hands and His feet.
So here we are.
Just about ready to go.
Working on the web site.
Praying for each piece to fall into place.
A few months ago I wrote about starting a non-profit to the orphan.
And the paperwork has been underway for awhile.
The web site has been coming along.
We are not fast, true.
But we are close – finally!
Remember when I mentioned people sitting at night not doing too much that is productive?  And wondering out loud what would happen if people took their crafting skills and made things, donating their materials and time to put their crafted item on a site that would be sold and all proceeds {with the exception of shipping} would go to feed the orphan?
Remember that?
Well it’s time to start sending your stuff.
And tomorrow I will tell you where, how and what to send.
And gracious sweet friends, this is gonna’ be the ride of our lives…
Buckle up with me – it’s gonna’ be so rewarding – cause we get to do it together – you and me

feeding an orphan from where you are and where we are…
*tears welling*
Yippee Jesus!

  1. I was wondering when this was going to happen. I am very, very excited it's time to get it going.

I have beeen so busy helping Chris that I haven't had much time to help families fundraise sooooo that means I have some pendants I can be sending 🙂

I can't wait to see the site!!!

PS Chris has been working on an RV this week so it has had me thinking about your RV experience 😉

  2. oooohhhh! I wonder what I can make that is crafty and other people would want to buy. I don't have a hobby really other than writing, reading, and walking. I will have to pray and see what this craft-challenged self could contribute. 🙂

  3. I can't wait to see the new website. Sounds like an awesome God-inspired idea.
My heart breaks for these little ones! I have been moved to tears the past two weeks at church hearing the stories of Uganda and all that God is doing. Our God is awesome and I am so excited to be part of a church that is so on fire for Him and has such a heart for those who are lost.

To GOD be the glory. Great things He has done.

  4. I am WRACKING my brain trying to figure something our family could do to contribute…maybe I'll just purchase;)! So excited to see this all come together Linny!

  5. So very exciting ! I don't have a crafty bone in my body – but maybe I can help out somehow. I can at least purchase ! Praying as you move forward with your exciting venture :))
