Only God Could Do This…

This GO Team trip had something happen
that has left us giggling from the absurdity of it all.
The other day we were out in the village ministering
has served.
So this particular day we had helped do wash, later
playing games, had lunch,
then had a sweet time of sharing God’s word and crafts.

As the day was drawing to a close
we were slowly making our way to the van.
Suddenly we heard a noise.
What in the world was it?
I strained listening.
and even turned to one of the team laughing,
“That sounds like an ice cream truck!”
Now understand this…
The place we were at
is way, way, way off the beaten path…
down a red clay road…
way, way far from any main road…
But you know God loves these precious treasures
and how God loves big, big surprises
even big surprises for missions teams
who long to do something extra special
for the treasures we serve…
Well the sing-song melody grew only louder…
and suddenly a boda appeared…
We laughed in disbelief.
Could this really be one of God’s crazy cold surprise
in the form
of a sweet treat for the little treasures we serve?
Yes indeed.
I laugh as I type.
Sure enough,
an ice cream boda man..
with a cooler full of bright pink cold stuff…
He stopped to talk to us
and we asked the price.
We peeked inside the cooler/thermos.
There didn’t look like there would be enough for
everyone.

But then, again, we know the story of the
loaves and fish…
and if the God of the Universe could bring
cold, bright pink ice cream on a boda
to the faraway rural village road…
He was more than big enough to multiply
what the man brought
and make it enough for all.
The ice cream man began scooping.
Emma began counting…
and one by one little children stared in disbelief…
they had never, ever had ice cream before!!
We learned that the ice cream man
had been down the road before,
but orphanages don’t ever have money to buy it…
Oh the joys of mission teams…
After serving a bunch,
Emma said that she peered inside his container
and told him to scoop smaller to
ensure each little one get one…
But he didn’t pay any attention…
He kept filling each cup to the top.
By now the village children had gathered
 and were longingly watching.
There was no way- no how we were
going to not buy for everyone…
and we watched God just had to multiply
 the cold pink stuff…
No surprise –  He sure did multiply it!
Note the little boy in the left background
of the picture below…
And notice his grin in the picture as he
walks away with his ice cream…

We bought ice cream for everyone from the
village who came….
A total of 67 cups of ice cream were purchased…
And each was filled to overflowing…
Everyone loved it all.
God is amazing.
He loves the orphan.
He loves the village folks.
He multiplies pink ice cream
being carried on a boda out in the rural roads…
If He didn’t give us enough fun with all that…
the team giggled and giggled when the boda driver
told us the name of the flavor:
Iced Bimbo

  1. As soon as I started reading this I began to laugh knowing….knowing our God would make sure everyone got ice cream. I have read similar stories with Heidi Baker in Mozambique. Only God! Praise God for His goodness……only God

  2. Linny, almost every day for the past 3 1/2 years you have ministered to me. I'm one of the "lurkers" that never says anything BUT, I pray with you, I fast with you, and I rejoice with you because I too love the Lord and these precious orphaned kiddos. My husband and I have 8 kiddos…..his, mine and ours! (only three still at home though) Two of the 3 still at home are our special boys. (well, they are all special, but these guys will never be out on their own I don't believe.) Our oldest special boy came from an orphanage in Lithuania at the age of one in 1995 and our newest little guy, age 7, from Russia in 2011. One has FAS and autism and our newest little monkey has DS. No dull moments around here! Right now we are praying about another little one in China also with DS. I would love to have your input on a couple of questions I have and that a few of our older kids have brought up. 1. What happens to your younger kids if something happens to you and DW any time soon.(my hubby and I are 53) and 2. And should you take into consideration how your older married kids feel about you adopting again. (some are fine with it but some aren't) I am trying to be open to their concerns but honestly, I think it's their loss if they haven't "gotten it" by now and their selfishness that has them not wanting us to adopt another special needs child. I'm pretty frustrated to say the least! I know you are so busy but I would love to hear whats on your heart about this. Thank you so much and thanks for inspiring me to be a better mom when I'm in the valley and for the showing me God's heart for the fatherless. Blessings to you and yours.

  3. God is good- all the time. Such a sweet story, it brought tears to my eyes. His eye is on the sparrow, and He surely knows how to bless us above and beyond anything we could even think to ask. Thank you for sharing!
