Ya’ know there is something that is almost borderline sick when it comes to blogging. It seems to make almost everything in life turn into a blog post of some sort. I was wondering, ‘what did I used to do with all these little stories when I was first a mom, some 26+ years ago?’ I guess I laughed alone, but thanks to blogging I get to share some smiles from tonight with friends around the world.
Dw and I crawled into bed last night about 11:30. It had been a long day. I always fall instantly to sleep, infact years ago, I told Dw, “if you have anything important to tell me, better do it just before my head hits the pillow, because once it does, it’s all over.” Last night was no exception, except that at 11:42 one of our teenagers shut their bedroom door a bit harder than normal and I woke up with a start. Thanks sweet kid – just what I needed! Those 12 minutes of sleep were power packed no doubt!
I couldn’t go back to sleep. *smile* I lay praying for those I know who are in difficult places in life. Within about 20 minutes I heard Elijah start to cry. I went downstairs to comfort him and found that he needed a stinky diaper change. I did that and put him back down. I crawled back to bed. Within about 10 minutes I heard Elizabeth crying….sure enough she needed a stinky diaper change. Did that. Back to bed, only this time both started screaming.
Between Dw’s surgery, his inability to sleep because of the pain from the surgery and his long flight to Africa with the quickest turnaround probably in history, he is exhausted! I wanted him to get some good sleep, so decided that whatever it took I would keep the house quiet. *smile* So I took a pillow and blanket and put them on the floor in the babies room. I then lifted E & E down and we three snuggled under the blanket on the floor of their room.
Remember the days of sleepovers on the floor? My brain remembers the fun, but my body is thinking at 50 it’s really was not all it was ever cracked up to be. And yes, by the way, I can finally say “50”.
We lay there snuggled together and eventually we all three fell asleep. I would guess about an hour passed and Elijah woke up and was laying thumping his foot on the floor. He then crossed his one leg in the air and rested his foot on his other knee. In the dimly lit room I could see his chubby little hand patting his little chubby little leg. I smiled – he looked so darn cute.
His chubby little hand…
Then he started clicking his tongue like a horse clip-clops….it was so sweet, even in the middle of the night….(I know, what a sicko I am!)
They both ended up, eventually, back in their cribs and I went to the couch – of course, not before getting more wood off the porch and stoking the fire. While on the couch I was just about to drift off when I heard this weird bang sound. I thought, “what in the thee world?” When I didn’t hear anymore I started to drift again, and then all of a sudden there it was again! What is that noise? I decided I better go check it out and guess what that little noise was?
Yes, Miss Elizabeth was not only out of her crib, but in the bathroom, emptying the cupboards and neatly lining up all the things on the counter.
Mommy’s big helper! =)
I took her to the couch where she lay quietly as I drifted back to sleep. At 4:40 both E & E were up for good and I decided, to throw in the towel and just make them some oatmeal, kind of like the porridge they are used to. Both ate heartily and have been playing ever since with stuff I have dug out….and they have been singing off and on…even Elijah loves to sing…so sweet…he sings on his own and I recognize bits of what he is singing……
