Redeemer House

My heart broken over and over and over and over in Uganda.
Here is yet another one of those times.
Redeemer House
~a beautiful home for the orphan~
Founded by a Godly woman named Kathy from Oregon.  A few years older than myself, there was an instant connection.  We have emailed back and forth for a long time, but I had not had the opportunity to meet her in person.
I could have talked to her for weeks, such a precious lady.  She told me the story of Redeemer House and the naming of it.  I have not asked her permission to share her story, but maybe one day.  Let’s just say, as I think of it, I cry.  God is indeed the Redeemer of all.  Broken hearts and broken lives.
When we arrived and had just gotten out of our cars the children lined up and sang a song for us.  It was so moving.  They love Jesus!  He is part of their lives all day long.  They talk about Him and sing about Him and pray just as they eat and sleep.
Such an amazing place!
I felt so honored to be there with these precious little ones.
Do you know what they do?
The kids gather in together {daily} and get on their knees and pray for forever families for each other.  I cannot type that without tears.  Can you imagine?
Look at these precious treasures:
{some of the kids were at school having exams,
the rest were kept home for us to meet}

Can you imagine gathering with your friends and praying on your knees for families for each other?
Can you imagine?
Watching some go home forever, and yet you remain.
Can you imagine?
Me neither.

  1. pretty sure that I DO, TOO! =)

so thankful you got to love on one of our boys. so thankful for you period! [actually, that's an exclamation mark, huh?!]

  2. ok…i'm back because i see you added words now.

no, i cannot imagine. but, i was there the last time that one of those children went home….they REJOICED with that child while concurrently on their knees praying [and even fasting!] for God to bring the rest of them families. i cannot imagine.

so thankful for Kathy's obedience in this. for this safe haven for older children to learn about and grow in Christ's love.

so thankful that God opened our eyes that He is bigger than all the labels that our world can put on a child so that we could see one of the greatest needs in Uganda is families for these 'older' children. these kids here know God's design for family and they long for it. they are in a loving environment laying the groundwork for God setting them [the lonely!] into families.

i'd be happy to point anyone in the right direction for information on Redeemer House adoptions, if they feel led there.

  3. There was a little girl in the orphanage with our daughter, the last day we went to say goodbye and she was having a meltdown, sent to her room. I was told,"yes its hard for the children that are still waiting." as to the reason for her behavior. My heart still breaks for her. I so wish that things were different for our family and pray that her family finds her soon. Its heartbreaking…..

  4. Well, now I love your words. Yes, I think as we have started to place kids my heart has broken even more. There are a couple of kids there that are from the original 7 that have not been matched and I am dying more a little each day.

I think their ages are intimidating but if people only got to know them ….

I know God will call up awesome families. He has already started!!

  5. Oh! What an example those little children are to all of us! I almost don't even know what to say. No, I can't imagine – I cannot imagine these little children on their knees praying for each other like that. It . breaks . my . heart!
I want them all too!! Still praying for hubby to get with the program! 🙂

  6. Linny,

How can you find out about adopting these children? Is it done through an agency? What are the costs? I would love to know how things work there. Not sure the hubby would be on board at this point in our live but my heart is always open to adoption. We have 3 bio children (18, 15 and 10) and our youngest was adopted from China 7 years ago.

    Blessings,

  7. I agree… a post on how to adopt and the costs involved would be very helpful for those of us ready and willing!!

I can't imagine the love they must have for each other… truly amazing!

  8. Ok, so how do you find these kids? I don't know…it's crazy to even think about it. Is there an agency that works with this home????
    …oh my heart…

  9. Thank you for sharing your pictures and sweet words! One of the little sweeties God is bringing home to us was in them & we love her dearly. And Jaja Kathy is loved, admired, respected & prayed for here daily. Thank you for going & loving & sharing…

  10. We got to bring home one of those treasures from Redeemer House and we are the most blessed!!! Through the entire process we knew people were praying but when we would think about those kids praying for Esther to come home to her family it just nearly was more than we could take!!! The kids just rejoiced and rejoiced when we came to get Esther and I know she is missed there, but the kids are so happy for her, and Esther prays OFTEN for the rest of the children to have forever families…and let me just say….God is answering the prayers!!! He is soooo amazing. Thanks for posting this…Esther came flying over to me and gave me the name of each and every child…she enjoyed these pictures so much!!!

ps…I could not help myself..I had a memorial box monday to share on tues, and I used your logo and told a bit about MBM and linked to your last one, but I just couldn't keep it in another minute. 🙂

  11. I would take every single one…
But as of yet, I don't know how to make that happen, so for the moment I will just keep praying for them.

  12. It is obvious these kids are well cared for. Their clothing is not in tatters, and they look so healthy and well fed. I have not seen photos of kids in Africa looking like this before. Thanks so much for sharing!
